GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

Honestly.. no it is not a total replacement for an SVT.. SVTs have their sound.....
But for me, I am happier now when using my Streamliner. It is louder than an SVT for sure, and with more clean headroom if i need that...

And i get to take my tone and amp anywhere i go.. I cant do that with my old SVT.. My svt has been tweaked and hot rodded.. But I cant take it on fly dates.... muchless on any of my local dates with all of my back issues.
Where as i can take my Streamliner anywhere and everywhere.

Ha -- well, I'm coming from an SWR Bass 750, so I'm saving about 30lbs on that rack! I love that I can take the Streamliner out and fit it in my backpack for rehearsals, recording, etc, too.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread, but I'm really curious about what heads all you folks are switching from. For those who are lucky enough to have an old school SVT or similar -- is the Streamliner a total replacement?

Yep, I know, with the 3 tubes in the STL & the way it's made, but to me out just, well, isn't.
I can set set the eq on my Shuttle & be cool all nite.
As the designers have said about the STL, it's not for everyone. But, I'm a set 'n forget type, but, hey what can I say.
Just didn't work for me, so I answered the guys question as honestly as I could.
TB should be about honest reviews from all parties.
I'd've hated it if I didn't get some differing reports about an amp I was interested in

I can't get over how much better the GK neo cab is with the Streamliner vs the Epifani... absolutely night & day. The Epifani is so dark, so muddy, the GK NEO so clear, so much more versatile, hi-fi to tube warmth, its all there. Wow

So I was right.:D

Is anybody using a Streamliner with Jim Bergantino's original HT112/EX112 mini stack? If so, can you give your opinions of this combo?

Yep, I am. Although, I've only had one opportunity to use the stack since getting the Streamliner and it was an all upright bass gig. But it works fantastically well with the upright bass. Need to roll off the lows to prevent feedback and boosted the mids to 3 on the 2.5k setting. The guys in the band really dug the sound.

My more recent gigs have been using the Streamliner with just the HT112 and a Fender Jaguar bass. I just love this little combo and for what it is it's crazy loud. I play in a 5 piece band with a guitarist who likes to crank his amp for the rock numbers and two horn players going through a PA. I don't go through the PA but have no problem cutting through with the master volume on 2. Gain and Pre volume are either both round noon for a cleaner sound or pre volume at 9 and gain at 3 or higher for some nice break up in the tone. Even with this little combo and the Fender I cut back the lows to around 10-11 and boost the mids to around 2-3 (either 600 or 2.5k depending on the room). Bear in mind these a generally smaller venues I'm playing at hence I don't need the stack. But I can't wait to get on a gig where the room is big enough for the stack. After almost every gig with the Streamliner I get compliments on my sound. That wasn't the case before.

I have a Streamliner 600 plus a HT112/EX112 mini stack.
My normal gigs usually use just one HT112, but for outdoor
or big stage the mini stack. It still is a bit muted compared to my rack setup, QSC2402/Alembic F2b/Para DI driver/Epifani T212 (original vertical), but so much easier to cart around with the nice DI and light weight.

I like the sound. I had a Shuttle 6.0 and sold it, just had too much of a clean vibe to it, especially the way the highs were a bit too present and a mid voicing I had troubles getting out. I always went back to My Eden WT-400.

The STL is better, but I'm still getting used to it. I can see how some are frustrated at cutting through the mix, I have experienced that but it was a "keep the bass down, please" type of a gig. When I get to have normal volume, no problemo.

Although I use the gain switch, I find the cleaner settings with the drive channel up to 2:00 works better for me. Main gig is a Latin.Rock combo with alot of percussive instruments.

Still love the Eden, but not the 4 ohm reliability problems I have faced (cuts out at high volume for a second or two then recovers)

@maxgroover and andertone, Thank you gents! Good info.
I had a Shuttle 9.0 and sold it promptly. Just not my thing. Could never get it fat and old school. Guess the modern thing isn't me. To me the Shuttles were a poor man's (and infinitely inferior) Walter Woods. I'm hoping the STM-900 will do the trick: replace my Ashdown ABM500 and double as a backend for my upright gigs. I just hate having to lose my Bergs to make it work. I feel better with your guys endorsements.

Here are some links to some of the tracks I recorded over the past few months. Please bear in mind that these are not done being mixed and edited, so there are a few random noises and eq imperfections that are yet to be fixed... just wanted to give everyone a sense of what the amp sounds like in the studio

Tracking method used:

Lakland 44-01 set passive, slight favor to bridge pup in dual coil mode.

Signal 1 - 80% of mixed signal
GB Streamliner 900 post-EQ direct out to board

Signal 2 - 20% of mixed signal
GB Streamliner to 70's SVT mic'd off axis

(signal 3, tube DI box was not used in this mix)

Amp Settings:

Gain at 2 o'clock, hi-gain button on
Bass flat
Mids set at 3 o'clock at 2.5Khz
Treble set at 11 o'clock

Enjoy!! There's a very clear bass bit in the first track about 2 mins in.

Anybody else happy as hell to have a Genz Benz after reading the TC wattage disaster? Watching GENZ stand by their products, coming on this thread & putting their reputation on the line means a lot.
Its great to take part in a company thats going to take care of you & be honest.

Well, I would say they are both fantastic amps that use very well designed limiting/compression/tube emulation circuitry (plus what must be some clever heat management hardware with the Genz 9 series) to sound much louder and more full than their actual power modules would suggest if tested purely in a vacuum on the scope:smug:

oh man here we go with the power ratings crap again

hahah just kidding.... what do you think of the tracks Ken? I figure they're right up your alley!!

I'm looking at adding a second 115 to make a stack... if I had the TC750 right now I wouldn't even think of it but I have 100% confidence the Streamliner 900 could get push the 2 8ohm 400w cabs without trouble.

PABLO: Can't download at work was hoping just to click & hear!
