That is a very interesting (to me) subject.
Does the Streamliner sound exactly like "a" Tube amp? No.
Does a 69 SVT sound exactly like a 1982 SVT? No.
Does a Bassman sound like an SVT? No.
Does the Streamliner sound/react/feel more like a Tube amp than any other amp I've played/owned? Yes.
Does the Streamliner sound like a Streamliner? Yes and oh what a good yes.
Someone made the comment that the Streamliner did not sound like "any" tube amp but then said the Shuttle 9.0 was closer to the tone they were seeking or worked for them better. OK but the Streamliner is much closer to a true tube amp sound than the 9.0 by a mile and a half. The 9.0 is closer to the "Amp" tone but is warmer than most of it's competitors like Eden etc....and has much more horse power under the hood. There are not many tube amps out there ever built designed to be flat.
I think one of the things that causes the Streamliner to pull out ahead of a classic tube amp is the horse power on tap under the hood and it's ability to take the low end further than a classic tube amp can.
The Streamliner is generally used with a smaller lighter cab than a classic 8x10 except for Kirk.
Plug the Streamliner into an 8x10 and compare. Yes the Streamliner gets it's overdrive differently but it is a good (controllable) differently.
I go along with the thought of one looks at his Streamliner (at load up) then turns to look at the SVT and says "maybe next time I'll take that big ol heavy SVT".
It's a no brainer baby.
I'm I a Genz Benz shill? No. I'm one astonished son of a gun. The fact that they crammed all that tone and power into that little bitty box just blows my mind.
