GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

...if I sell it, the next amp can't sound like a Streamliner either. I have more than 1 bass, I'm going with more than 1 amp too.

I have to either buy a lightweight poweramp for my Eden Nav...

Have you tried running the Navigator into the power amp input of the Streamliner? The SL makes a pretty decent 6.3lb power amp...

I needed a quickie acoustic guitar amp the other day, so I ran an ART mic preamp into the back of my SL 900, and used it to light up an 8-ohm 3-way cab: Hey presto- instant 500-watt AG rig. Sounded clean, clear, and perfectly "modern".

Yep. 900/Uber Quad, absolutely zero complaints here

I've been using fairly conservative settings on the amp, but started to branch out. As we've been experiencing, extreme cuts/boosts add incredible character rather than harshness, something I have not found with the new generation of feather weight amps.

Same here with STL900 and Uber 410. My only GAS is for a smaller cab to use for studio and small gigs.

But I love the sound of this amp/rig, and I want for nothing.

I have been using a '73 SVT and an 810. Last Wednesday I received a STM 900. IMO they sound similar. One thing that I did notice is the STM didn't seem to allow the notes to ring out as much as the SVT, but to me, at least at this point, it's close enough. Close enough that I may sell the SVT.

That is a very interesting (to me) subject.

Does the Streamliner sound exactly like "a" Tube amp? No.

Does a 69 SVT sound exactly like a 1942 SVT? No.

Does a Bassman sound like an SVT? No.

Does the Streamliner sound/react/feel more like a Tube amp than any other amp I've played/owned? Yes.

Does the Streamliner sound like a Streamliner? Yes and oh what a good yes.

Someone made the comment that the Streamliner did not sound like "any" tube amp but then said the Shuttle 9.0 was closer to the tone they were seeking or worked for them better. OK but the Streamliner is much closer to a true tube amp sound than the 9.0 by a mile and a half. The 9.0 is closer to the "Amp" tone but is warmer than most of it's competitors like Eden etc....and has much more horse power under the hood. There are not many tube amps out there ever built designed to be flat.

I think one of the things that causes the Streamliner to pull out ahead of a classic tube amp is the horse power on tap under the hood and it's ability to take the low end further than a classic tube amp can.

The Streamliner is generally used with a smaller lighter cab than a classic 8x10 except for Kirk.:D

Plug the Streamliner into an 8x10 and compare. Yes the Streamliner gets it's overdrive differently but it is a good (controllable) differently.

I go along with the thought of one looks at his Streamliner (at load up) then turns to look at the SVT and says "maybe next time I'll take that big ol heavy SVT". :D

It's a no brainer baby.

I'm I a Genz Benz shill? No. I'm one astonished son of a gun. The fact that they crammed all that tone and power into that little bitty box just blows my mind.:eek::eek::eek:

I agree with the guys here who have stayed with the Streamliner vs bailing on it... I can't get rid of it... theres nothing like it. No it can't do it all but I know if I sell it, the next amp can't sound like a Streamliner either. I have more than 1 bass, I'm going with more than 1 amp too.

I have to either buy a lightweight poweramp for my Eden Nav or buy a rackmounted class D amp for the 2nd. Still in between what to do. I'll probably compare DI Eden vs Genz... if the Genz is that much quieter than the Eden I'll most likely grab a Shuttle.

You need the 9.0 and you'll have it all. :)

:D:D:D
Yeah the only time i use the 810s is on fly dates.. They are real easy to get almost anywhere on the planet.. and are fairly consistent.
Otherwise on all my home gigs i use my Uber 115 standalone or Uber Quad 1288 + Uber115..
Killer!!

Eden Navigator vs Streamliner

And the winner is...

The Streamliner by a lot.

Test methods: Pre-EQ, same LED level on mixer through poweramp & PA speakers

Of course they sound similar but I'm looking at noise level. The Streamliner was so quiet, virtually no hiss at all. The Eden has a DI level control. So I tried both a high DI level & less volume at the channel & vice versa. Either way you set the Eden up the GENZ comes out with much less hiss

I would rate the Genz as EXCELLENT & the Eden as ACCEPTABLE in terms of hiss.

To me, the most important & underrated\under appreciated\under tested part of an amp is the DI. Hell thats whats going to the house & to the people... The Genz slams it out of the park.

Now that I think about it I'll go back & compare the Genz DI to the Sansamp PBDDI & BDDI next.

The implications for me is that I now will NOT be buying an 8lbs poweramp for the Eden & instead getting a Shuttlemax... thats how important a clean DI is to me.

I'm in on the 810 cab as well. It gives me just what I want. I rebuilt my cab from the ground up and loaded it with legend b810s, and boy does it smoke! Although, its inconvenience has got me really looking at the Fearful 1212/6.

FOLLOW UP TO THE DI TEST

My Programmable BDDI & Paradriver BDDI are both as quiet as the Genz Benz with full bypass (Pre EQ).
My Eden will always need a BDDI in front of it while the Streamliner DI is excellent alone

Understand your views but if you're meaning my comments, then I THINK I said I didn't think, - all my opinion- the STL was anything like any tube amp I've used.
I've heard it is meant to be similar, or designed to be (or something) like the Sadowsky SA200 which I haven't used.
If it is, cool.
I just don't agree with your comment that the STL IS more like a tube amp ' by a mile.....' Than the Shuttle.
If you're meaning ' in your view ' etc then fine.
Imo, when I EQ the Shuttle right, it reminds me far more of the tube amps/sounds I've used for the last 20yrs etc than the STL.
THIS is all my opinion. That's all.
& I do really like the Shuttle! :)

Maybe it's a voltage thing...

;)

The Shuttle 9.0 is closer to that clean articulate SS sound though I do almost agree it is warmer than most like the MB LMIII and such.

The Streamliner is that big ol wooly booger fat round and warm.

Which one is more like a tube amp uh I'm not real sure at this point. ROFLMBFFAO :D

JimmyM responding to Red Planet's argument that vintage SVT's don't the same as later models:

Actually it does. I've played both many times.

Jes' sayin' ;)

Awww, c'mon, Jimmy.

After 12DW's and 6146's became unobtainable, techs made lots of money converting early SVT's to use different tubes,

I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't hear any difference between a modded '69 and an '82, especially at low levels.

But to overlook the difference between an unmolested '69 with standard NOS tubes and an '82 with AX7's and 6550's at full blast, you'd have to be deef!

Why else do Ampeg fans rave about the sound of late 60's and early 70's SVT's?

Hi everyone, I am still loving my Streamliner 600, however its time for a new cab. I was thinking between an Uber 212 or 410 possibly. I play in a reggae band, any recommendations based on the two cabs? Thanks in advance

I play in a vintage/skinheadreggae/rocksteady band. I use a Streamliner 600 and two GB NEOX 112 cabs. Works well for me
