GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

Hi everyone, I am still loving my Streamliner 600, however its time for a new cab. I was thinking between an Uber 212 or 410 possibly. I play in a reggae band, any recommendations based on the two cabs? Thanks in advance

Depends on the volume level you play at.

The Uber 410 will get louder and have plenty of lows.
The Uber 212 will sound just a bit more round (vintage-y?) in the lows.

Two Uber 115 would be killer for that type thing.

JimmyM responding to Red Planet's argument that vintage SVT's don't the same as later models:

Awww, c'mon, Jimmy.

After 12DW's and 6146's became unobtainable, techs made lots of money converting early SVT's to use different tubes,

I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't hear any difference between a modded '69 and an '82, especially at low levels.
Well, to me they sound like SVT's, so it's all good. I'm sure if I sat down with them over a weekend, I could point out differences. But they all have the sound when they're tuned up.

But to overlook the difference between an unmolested '69 with standard NOS tubes and an '82 with AX7's and 6550's at full blast, you'd have to be deef!

Why else do Ampeg fans rave about the sound of late 60's and early 70's SVT's?
They are cool. But apart from slight differences here and there, I don't hear much from one that can't be done with the other. 12dw7's are half 12ax7, 12AU7's anyway. That's where most of your change would come in, and they just rewired the tubes to work like 12dw7's sort of.

I'm using a Berg NV610 with my STM 900. I have the gain at 1 o'clock with the gain button in. The other settings around noon with a slight mid boost at 600. My bass is set flat with a slight bass boost, the VTC cracked open abit with a slight bias towards the p pup. I use a Sadowsky PJ5 by the way. It sounds like the child of an Ampeg SVT and a Aguilar DB750, so it's all good. With this setup my master is about 10-11. I know these setting are too bassey for some, but I play with 3 guitarists with twangy telecasters so I gotta fill in the low end.

+1 As has been posted before, part of the big low end of the Streamliner is, IMO, due to it being voiced to behave, when set neutral, quite like an all tube amp, which usually can benefit from a nice, sealed, tightly voiced cab like the NV610. That must just sound killer.

For those of us who use more modern, ported cabs, a slight cut in the very musical and useful bass control works wonders.

Amazing head in the applications and contexts for which it was designed.

OK, after reading the threads, I bought a STM-900 that I love.
I am considering using it as my main amp replacing my Thunderfunk TFB750-A that I am playing with 2 - Schroeder cabs ( 1 - 4 x 12 and 1 - 2 x 12). I bought a Uber Quad a couple of weeks ago am considering using two to replace my current setup or the Quad plus a Uber 15.
Any suggestions with which I would be happier with ?
I really love the sound of the Thunderfunk and the Schroeders, but it's a pretty heavy setup. Currently working with a 70's/80's classic rock band and some wedding band gigs.

Agreed.

If I had to guess a lot of folks will be plugging the Streamliner into small lightweight cabs since the amp is small and light. Though it is voiced for that traditional tone that is usually coming out of a sealed cab.

That coupled with it's ability to take the low end places traditional amps can't go is what is miffing a few folks.

Ah but it's so warm and woolly. :)

I've been following this thread since the Streamliner rumors started and I'm intrigued by this amp. I'm about to receive a fEARful 12/6/1. Any thoughts about whether this would be a good pairing? I know there are at least several happy TB153/STM users and probably some fEARful users too. I would welcome your comments.

Just got my 2nd GK NEO 115 III today to complete the stack, should be a BEAST with the streamliner. I love the fact that they are hi-fi & are total opposites of my Epifani NYC 310s.

Thats going to be a lotta fun, like plugging into my GK NEO 412 only portable. Sweet! Pics when it shows up

Much as I love my Berg HT/EX stack...I'm'a yearnin for the 15 sound. In other words... envious!

Streamliner plus 2 15s? With a Bongo 5? Can't wait to hear this bad boy! Its crazy what height in a stack does to your perception of the tone. When I stack my 310s the top sounds so hollow vs the low cab, (More mids)... this will allow me to add more warmth OR help cut through the mix better (won't sound muddy which is why some people bail on the amp)... These are my guesses but of course I'll send a review your way

So the Gk cab makes the mids more pronounced and the Streamliner cuts out the really bright voicing in the GK cab?

Yup, it brings two tonally opposite tonal design goals together for some awesome versatilty

If I want all warmth I'll pair the Streamliner with the Epifani, if I want in your face hi-fi funk I'll pair the GKs with a LM, GK or my Eden amp.

Total tonal flexibility... but again I like meeting in the middle with GK NEOs & Streamliner... best of both worlds the Streamliner warmth which is excessive with some settings make the GK NEO warm while the NEOs can make a Streamliner act like a Shuttlemax almost when cutting bass & mids at 220K.
