Took my head to rehearsal today, and found the perfect cab for it. The "lead bass" player uses an SVT-VR through an SVT 810e. I plugged into that 810, and holy cow! Tone heaven! That mid-forward cab brilliantly balances the bottom-heavy head as well as possible. I'm still floored by it, and I thought it was great with my Goliath...

Still lovin my 900, it's a fab head!
It's been a solid companion for ages now and my search for an amp head (after yrs and yrs) is finally over.
Alas, the blue light (to light up the tube area) has gone out
The amp functions perfectly well without it....but i do miss it!
Anyone know if this is an easy fix? I bought the amp O/S so I ain't gonna send it back for wty.

Every once in a while we see a bad LED, that's about the only cause. You can e-mail the factory and we will get you a replacement. It's purely a cosmetic thing, no performance or relability issue.
I'm really digging the combination of my AudioKinesis Thunderchild cab and Streamliner 900 with a new fretless project bass. It's just a cheapie, a 4-string Squier VM Jazz, loaded with DiMarzio Area J's.
I've never been a Jazz Bass or a big fretless guy, so I don't know if this is normal, but I'm finding that with the pickups adjusted for an even balance across the strings, I'm able to run the bass control on the SL900 much higher than I've been doing with my 5-strings (an Ibanez ATK, and a self-made bass loaded with EMG 40P5's).
In fact, I was using the fretless for an acoustic set yesterday, and ended up with the bass at noon, the upper mids boosted very slightly, and the port plugs removed on my cab. I normally run the bass and low midbass rolled back to around 10 o'clock, one plug in, and an external parametric EQ in-line to thin out the low mids.
Is this typical with fretless, and relatively vintage-voiced Jazz pickups in particular?

That is exactly the starting tone profile I use with my Alleva-Coppolo, the Thunderchild and my Streamliner. However, I've rarely had to overly EQ that head with any of my basses (P's and J's) and at least the cabs I've chosen to use with it.
The Thunderchild is very even, but IMO can benefit from a bit of upper mid boost on the Streamliner to make it sing with a J bass.
That's the thing, though. Although I love the dynamic feel and smoothness of my Streamliner, from day one I've had to work at taming the low mids with my active 5-strings. This was the case with my Flite 103W as well.
The only difference this time around, is a passive 4-string Jazz, with pickups that aren't known for a "modern" mid-scoop.
Are your Jazz basses all active?
My J's sound pretty similar with the preamp engaged or not. I don't crank the EQ on-board.
Interestingly, I hear virtually NO low mid bump with the Streamliner at all, especially with the bass control relatively neutral. With some cabs, I actually slightly boost the low mids while keeping the bass flat, or depending on the room, cutting it to around 11 o'clock.
I guess, again, while that head is big sounding and smooth in the mids, it has plenty of punch and 'even tone' for me, especially (again, pure IMO) with the low mid present P Bass, which just SINGS through the Streamliner with just a slight cut of low end, and a slight boost of mids (typically mid mids or low mids, depending on cab and room... never more than 2 o'clock).

I have had somewhat parallel experiences, my active and passive four and fivers with jazz style pickups are generally 12 noon bass with a slight boost in the mids. However, my active Lane Poor humbucker equipped fretted and fretless Hoyt five string basses require a roll back of the bass control to around 10 o'clock+ as well. This is with new model Euphonic Audio NL210 cabs that do have a serious low end/B string response. While I carry a graphic EQ pedal in case of a hellish stage, it has not yet been necessary in insert it, but it's always in my gig bag.
I have been messing with some different settings, and found one with just a hint of overdrive and I have the thing cranked just slamming the peak light. Anyone know if this has any adverse effects? I cant here anything bad coming through my cab, so I figure its ok. I used to have to to the same thing with my 3 pro to get the tone I liked as well.
