I had never thought of it before, but you could have a powered BA cab that you could also use as a passive cab through a different input, of course not at the same time... I played the (2) 12-3 cabs through a Magellan 800...impressive... I especially like the yellow fat mode on the contour... bravo...

Your design is compelling...

I'm certain this has been addressed already, but I'm too lazy to read through 100 pages to find my answer. I'm seriously considering an MG212T to pair with my Quilter Bass Block 800. Sometimes I use a Boss OC-2 pedal to simulate huge, fat synth-bass lines and have a pretty heavy hitting drummer. That being said we always run through a nice PA system so I don't need to be super loud. Can that cab handle those low frequencies with some guts or am I asking too much from a 212?

@Hotblack and @flyingfinbar, just to clarify, this event is Saturday Oct 21 at the Cutting Room in NYC---10:30 AM to 6 PM. Lot's of bass-centric companies there and artist performances. This is the 5th year of this event put on by LaBella Strings.

@ric4682 --- I'm sure a few players will comment soon, but it might be helpful to comment on what type of cab you're currently using. I have my opinions. It you'd like to PM me we can discuss in more detail.

I have used the MG212T with a Quilter Bass Block 800. And it had more than plenty low-end. I did use an EBS Bass IQ and an EBS Octabass pedal. Although I haven't used the Boss OC-2, I think the pairing would be ideal.

He's awesome. That's why my next rig will be a Genzler to replace my Genz Benz. Great CS. Same reason I have a Roscoe bass. I am treated like a professional, even though I'm just some dude in North Dakota. Can't say enough about either of these companies. I'm guessing my Roscoe will sound amazing through a Genzler head and cab. Front runner today is an MG800/BA12-3 pairing. May pull the trigger this week. My wife is out of town so...:cool:

I have that combination and my Roscoe sound great thru either one or both cabs....I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

My path was this...

Had a Genz Benz shuttle 3.0 & an Acme B2. Replaced the 3.0 with a 9.0. The additional power made a big difference as did the fuller bottom end. But that also underscored one thing I didn’t like about the B2 - the bottom is huge and pillowy, overwhelming the mids and highs. I wanted a tighter bottom end, vocal mids and smooth highs. So began the search and narrowed it down to 4 choices: Barefaced Big Baby, Greenboy, Audiokinesis Hathor, or BA12-3. I think I would have been happy with any of the above (different flavors of good) but decided to go with the Genzler and am thrilled with the cab. It gave me exactly what I had hoped for plus amazing dispersion and very reasonable weight. I felt as if I was hearing my bass and my fingers in a way that I had not heard before.

The one thing about the 9.0 that I wasn’t crazy about is the tube. Every couple of weeks I had to pull it out and re-seat it and I couldn’t hear anything that it was really adding to my tone. So... I sold some gear and ordered the 800 (the 350 wasn’t available then but I probably still would have gone with the 800). WHOA. The 800 clearly is related to the Genz Benz heads but simply has more of everything I liked about them. It is more authoritative, quicker, has more girth in every register, and sounds/feels louder. Together they are amazing. It feels like driving a Ferari vs. a Ford. It responds instantly without any strain and exposes everything I put into it (for good and bad). I’m sure that coupled with a 2nd or 3rd BA12-3, it would be even more so, but I simply do not need more at this point. It is more than enough for every setting I’m currently playing and just sounds great. I also play acoustic guitar and have plugged my Lowden into it... it sounds astoundingly good as an acoustic amp too.

I should say that I don’t use the contours or the dirty channel at this point and would have been just as happy without either. Now, that leads to the 350. As I said in an earlier post, that is the only amp that gives me any GAS these days. (Well, that and an additional unneeded BA12-3). I think the 350 combo would be loud enough/big enough for my current needs or would make a wonderful smaller amp to have at home for practice (my 800/BA12-3 lives at the church most of the time) or as my church amp with the 800 rig being at home and used for my other gigs. Probably the best addition would be a 350 head and an additional BA12-3. I could leave one cab at church with either head, use the other head and one cab for most of my other gigs and add the 2nd cab with the 800 when I really want or need to shake the foundations. But my wife is in town...

Caveat: I haven't heard either cabinet but I've read everything I could find on TalkBass.

The MG212T is consistently described as a more voiced rock cab, but still very clear with a high quality tweeter. The BA112-3 times 2 probably goes a little bit deeper due to more internal volume than the MG212T, and the mids and highs are very smooth; it's also described as a bit more balanced and versatile. Either choice I'm sure would be awesome, depending on your tone goals.

Then of course there's the one-cab vs. two-cab debate.

UPDATE:

Well, Jeff’s 0% failure rate on the MG800 still holds true. I feel like a moron for overlooking the ONE tiny (literally) detail that caused my issues: the cable from my wireless transmitter to my bass. Yup, that’s all it was. And in our haste at the gig to swap over to my JDI, I completely forgot the fact that my sound tech had just thrown me an instrument cable, bypassing the wireless. (We had literally switched everything else out; basses, speaker cables, etc)

Even though my issue ended up being completely my fault for overlooking a detail, I have to give major kudos to Jeff for immediately contacting me and helping work through the problem I was having. Makes me damn glad a chose Genzler when I was amp shopping—with customer support like that, I know that in the event where I actually had an issue that was the amp’s fault, I know I’d be taken care of. So, thanks Jeff!!

I've had that stuff happen to me . .Good to know the amp is great..

Its pretty hard to kill a genzler or older genz amp .. I am really rough on my stuff when i am at home..I am often running from one gig to another. And i swing stuff around in the gig bag getting into my car etc... I'm not so graceful.. .
My Genzler is now rack mounted for a road trip that started last spring until a few weeks ago.

Heat in Arizona, to cold AC indoors, High Humidity on the west coast and Gulf Coast south USA.. Knock wood but The amp is bullet proof.. I brought it on my church gig last week using it as a DI only..FOH loved it.. Its one of those Mega Churches with FOH guys that are off tour from some Major gig. And They are pretty tight one what is OK..

I am lucky to say that i only had ONE amp failure in my life . It had to be back in 1982 or 83 when my old crown DC300 must have passed DC into my JBLs.. They caught on fire..Well, smoking and burning . no flames.. i then moved to a Crown PSA2 power amp which i still have but it must weigh at least 70 pounds!!! ughhh

The build quality of this MG800 is super solid. After many thousands of road miles this summer and a few thousand fly miles, it doesn't have one rattle or scratchy pot. ( YET) i often have said,, if i can't break it no one can. lol..

I will say that it is gratifying that the decisions we made in product development and the experience over the years in product manufacturing is paying great dividends for players that rely on our gear.

The MG800 kills. Soooo tight and punchy. Great sounding DI, too.
