If I went with two BA12-3 instead of one MG212T what differences in tone and headroom would I find?

I purchased my cabs before the amp came out and (thanks to our "local" distributor George Ganakas who runs Bass Gear Direct in Sydney - I'm in Melbourne, 800-odd kms south) was able to try both cabs (212T and BA12-3) for 2 weeks before making a decision.

I like a clean sound, although I play rock and blues (mostly) with a little bit of "funk/fusion" thrown in. I preferred the single BA12-3 over the 212 because of a) very smooth highs (and let me tell you, they can still bite if you want), b) outstanding clarity, c) great sound consistency from close to the cab to across the stage, d) great lateral dispersion (the array really works), and e) the option of being modular.
The 212 sounded good, don't get me wrong, but it didn't quite do what I wanted in a cab.

Benefit e) above after having bought a second BA12-3 means I can take a single cab to rehearsals and softish gigs, and both for louder gigs. Interestingly enough 2 cabs have a synergy (more bottom extension, just a little "rounder") which means that I more often than not end up taking both to gigs, even small ones. Can't imagine how good 3 would sound .

I ordered a pair of BA12-3's sight unseen before Genzler was even available in Canada, and Jeff really bent over backwards to get them to me for a reasonable price and helped with the exorbitant shipping costs. I replaced my Mesa stack and have not looked back, and it wasn't long after that when I replaced my Shuttle 6.0 with the MG800. It is the best rig I've ever used - not only does it sound incredible, but it's compact and light .. much more fun to cart around to gigs than those Powerhouse cabs!

I will grab another BA12-3 at some point I have no doubt. Talk about a rig of doom..

Formerly was using an older Dave Eden 410XLT and after the switch never got a single complaint that the drummer couldn't hear me. OK, can't talk myself out of it, I'm getting a second cab....

Maybe if I HAD a badge... in all seriousness though, this is a labour of love for me, as this gear has really changed my bass playing life, and both yourself and the community here have been absolutely fantastic.

When I was in the store, testing the 12-3 and 800, only one cab was plugged in.. I plugged in the second 12-3... And.. heads turned, so did mine... It was good already... And got more goodly...much more goodly...

Jeff, have you tried reaching out to Long &McQuade music stores across Canada? I'd love to be able to go in there and try out the Magellan and the cabs but they are nowhere to be found in Canada

The guitar shop has the BA 12-3 for $1099 cad.
I tried the cab there but they didn't have an mg800 in stock so I drove it with a mesa subway (another nice amp btw). Grabbed the cab and ordered the Magellan from quest. Had everything the same week.

I like long and mcquade for convenience but I prefer smaller stores where possible...

Ditto on L&M. Not quite the Canadian Guitar centre but some stores have that feeling.
Loring, bummer you drove down from Barrie and they didn't have an MG in stock. Did they still have the Ken Smith basses? They were looking at moving them out for a very good price (everything being relative).

They have a couple @ just over $1k / string lol (which is good in canadian dollars as they seem to go for this in USD)
I actually came down from Peterborough - still 2 hrs. Wanted to hear the Bass array so it was well worth it. Had them order me in some covers/bags as well so I made the trip a second time. Really good people in there. Would have bought my MG800 there too but quest had a stupid price on it and I snapped it up.
