Genzler Amplification Club

Jeff, have you tried reaching out to Long &McQuade music stores across Canada? I'd love to be able to go in there and try out the Magellan and the cabs but they are nowhere to be found in Canada

My bass guru at L&M has been trying to get Genzler into their stores for awhile now, but no dice so far. I know it is something he has a vested interest in trying to accomplish, however.

If you are from Canada and seriously want these guys to carry it... (Don't spam the guy). You can email their VP of sales and marketing. [email protected] Jeff Long.

It is with mixed feelings that I'd like them to carry it. On the one hand, testing the product would be much more accessible for everyone as they have quite a few stores in a number of different markets and it would likely be good for Genzler in the long run.

On the other hand - I like that the boutique stores are offering stuff that Long & Mcquade don't have which gives them an advantage to draw people in.

Again if you email him please be serious that you're interested in buying. It won't don't anyone any good if there is a false sense of demand and they don't see sales as a result of bringing it in.

I tried using the search function I promise.

When going direct out to a PA, is it best to use Line or Mic and why?

Depends on your application - mic level is lower output and seems better for input into a recording interface, whereas line level can cause peaking at much lower volume (assuming you are running out of the speakers at the same time).

That's more of a sound guy question and their preferences. Line level will need to be padded down. Either through a DI box or padded at the board. Sometimes if you send a padded signal (MIC level) the sound guy will still pad and then complain he isn't getting any signal form you.

Also, Steve Long responds to emails. I ended having a conversation about the store in Grand Falls NB. Such an awesome store.

Also, that's nice your still still has a bass guru. They toasted ours at the Oshawa store years ago. That is part of why LM has fallen out of favour with me.

Hi - been in and out of the forum for years - had to restart my account today cause old email was gone. Anyway - here's the GB 9.0. Love it, and BADLY need a cabinet recommendation from the community here. Will post playing style, other gear, etc. once I'm in. Thank you.
Hey Chris, welcome back! I did the same thing. Was on here for years and then stopped. Couldn't get back on to my old profile, lost email, so started fresh.
Now Cabs, the BA 12-3 is a game changer. I've gone from a 410 down to the single 12 (for now, Gas, is going to add a 2nd) and it is filling all my needs. Best of all, I'm a single trip in for the load in and out.

Hey Steve-
Welcome back too! So, I just started playing in a Tom Petty tribute band (Pettyhearts.com) and in fairly nice sized venues (1000-3000 people), often on good sized outdoor stages. His bass tone isn't overly demanding. There's always a house PA taking my line out, or a direct box, and all players have monitors. I'm a finger player 98% of the time and very much influenced (tonally) by Sir Paul. I do play a lot of other stuff (ranging from ABBA to Zebra, but mostly rock in any case) as well. 90's alternative too, but not a slapper. I have a nice Sadowsky NYC Satin Series axe with nice range of P/J tone capabilities.

I have a Fender 2x15 vintage cab (70's anyway) which sounds very nice, but too big most of the time. I also have a Line 6 Lowdown LD-175 (think that's got a 15 in it). It also sounds quite good and is very flexible in tone - I worry it's underpowered for this next role? I was thinking that an "'in-between" for the new gig would be a 410 type of device. Played an Ampeg SVT 410HLF (this has the extended low response). Sounded pretty darn good to me. Heavy as hell though (not surprised). Thought I should consider pairing my Shuttle 9.0 with a GB cabinet, but they're outta business and I'm leery of buying deadlined products for possible support issues. There are a number of cabinets in that portfolio that I would have liked to consider. So, then I thought maybe the Genzler 2x12 Magellan product. Is my thinking outdated? Geddy plays direct to the PA for God's sake! Are there really 2x10" products that create a lovely deep tone for those instances when I have to rely on the amp alone (rehearsals)?

Maybe just consider direct with a SansAmp pedal for big gigs, and the Lowdown for rehearsals??

Lastly, I sometimes use a Big Muff Pi distortion for other tunes. Not much else in other effects.

Any input is appreciated from you or others in this esteemed audience!

Thank You-

Chris

Honestly you can't go wrong with any of the Genzler cabs. I replaced a Mesa Powerhouse 2x10 + 1x15 with a pair of the Array 12-3's and I haven't looked back one iota. All the volume and presence one could really hope for and about half the weight and size. I've heard great things about the Genzler 2x10's as well, and I think you will find them entirely suitable for your purposes.

I’ll speak for both the Genzler 12-3 arrays (purchased 3 of them) and now my new favorites the 210-3 arrays (purchased 2 of them). They both are absolutley amazing but for me the 210’s are a better option in that just 1 of them has given me the total volume and tone I need basically for any gig I would need. With both it’s insane what either combination. Bottom line is these cabinets will produce anything you out through them with the highest quality tone possible. They never cease to amaze me and everyone that hears them says the same thing.

Cool. I definitely favor the larger speakers (12" & 15") but realize there has probably been a lot of advances over the years. Have you had any feedback on the dual 12" product by chance or maybe listened to it yourself?

THANKS for that input. It's so hard for me to imagine that 2 10's can be that awesome, but I will take your word for it. I am surely skewed by decades of playing with a giant box. What was it about the 210 that you favored over the 12-3? Did you feel there was a lack of tone in the 12 versus the 10? I guess lastly, is there any concurrence that either of these Array products (or the dual 12 Magellen product) pair well with my 9.0 Shuttle? I will see who carries them in my area and demo some ASAP.

Gracias!

You got to realize that before this my rig was an Ampeg Heritage 410 and and Ampeg SVT-3 pro head. Which in its own right was an amazing rig but this Genzler setup puts out more clarity and just as much or punch as that Ampeg stack did. I sure love that these cabs weigh 38 pounds a piece verses close to 100 for my Ampeg lol.

I hear you. I also did the 810 and the SVT-2 Pro for awhile there. I recall the head alone was like 75 lbs!!!

But I am curious on your opinion of the Gensler 12 (you had three of these - did you dump them?) versus the 10 and why you preferred the latter. What difference would I be looking for between the two? They both seem highly "portable".

Thank you for your help.

There is no clear correct answer, as a matter of practicality, whatever is easier for the sound engineer given what he is expecting.... as for physics, I would argue that a balanced line level signal will give you the best shot at the most optimum signal to noise ratio...
