Very pretty. Ive always wondered - what do you guys play generally for worship gigs? I' guessing Sabbath is off the set list...
Is it all hymns? Bluesy background stuff? Do you get paid or is that effectively your tithe?

Depends on the Church. Mine is Classic/Pop Rock type and some traditional Hymns, the whole Congregation sings the songs as a group. I like to add a little Country Swing into it.Very pretty. Some pay and some do not, Mine does not. I do not care to listen to the songs on my own but it is fun to play, and as a Bassist watching a band without a Bass I took the position. It is a donation of services like cooking for the group barbecue or washing the dishes after a luncheon. It is free practice with a group and I have a lot of fun with them.
Just need to be careful not to do this.

Yeah, most places Sabbath is off the list
The answer for everything else is "it depends." There are as many styles of church music as there are styles of music. Many churches lean in one direction with a lot of them doing sort of U2'ish and 80's style rock material. I've been to churches that play country, a few that sound like a hip hop club, and a few that do primarily electronica. My congregation does a pretty wide variety of music from electronic dance to salsa to gospel to Afropop to the U2ish stuff to R&B to traditional hymns to conjunto...
Some churches require the players to be church members. Some will pass on that but require some kind of faith statement. Still others could care less as long as you play well and are respectful of the setting. We're a Christian church and had a Jewish woman playing percussion last Sunday. Some pay the players or at least key ones while at others it is all volunteer. Many are a mix with key players and the worship leader being paid while others volunteer. Some are basically any who wants to volunteer, show up for rehearsal while others have high expectations and do serious auditions.
IMHO, it is a great place for folk to play. As a player you have to work with a variety of folk at different levels, learn how to listen to the entire band plus be aware of the "audience," and often need to learn a fairly wide variety of styles of music, sometimes pretty quickly. It is a steady gig with hours and lack of substance issues so it doesn't mess with your body or your relationships... and there are scores of opportunities out there in almost every town. I always recommend my students find a church to play in.

I have a paid weekly gig. Not a ton’o’money, but it takes the place of a few dozen late crappy-strip-mall-bar gigs/year.
We do everything. Last night we did the holiday standard Christmas Time Is Here, Vince Guaraldi (sp?) style. Complete with a killer guitar and sax solo and a very mediocre bass solo. Then into a contemporary Christian tune then into a very nice Amy Grant ballad then into a cool alt-folky version of Silent Night.
The “typical contemporary Christian” stuff sounds a lot like modern country and U2 had a baby. That’s how I approach it from a bass gig perspective. I play 4 string and use a MXR BOD quite a bit.
We play 4 songs per week at one service per week with rehearsals on Thursdays. Very nice group of people and very fine musicians. All in all it’s a great gig!
I have found that, as a paid musician, you don’t have to be a member. Just be on time and prepared. And not a complete a-hole (which is the hardest part if the gig for me).
It sounds like a good gig. And that take on “typical contemporary Christians” stuff strikes me as right on target.
For those who don’t feel comfortable in Christian settings, there are often other similar opportunities. The local new thought/new age church has a band as does one of the Unitarian churches and the larger synagogue in town has a killer band of all paid players that plays one service a month...
And these days, to get current Christian worship music, add Mumford & Sons to that U2 and modern country mix

I play at our local synagogue once a month where I'm a member. We had a couple of ringers who were paid non-members for awhile but they've dropped out. Mix of abilities. Our leader and piano player was a local church music legend who was a director at a nearby Presbyterian church. He was an amazing musician, writer, arranger and a wonderful person who died tragically young. Our cantor is a multi-instrumentalist who usually plays piano now. We usually have drums, bass, acoustic guitar and piano at a minimum. Used to have clarinet and flute but they've stopped coming for a variety of reasons.
The music isn't very challenging and we rehearse right before the service so somewhat stagnant musically. We did make a CD which we distribute to the new members. The music is also a mix of fairly schmaltzy (look it up if you don't know) 80s ballad and show tune style and traditional Jewish tunes from a variety of sources. Very few written parts-- mostly chords so I can create my own which is fun too.
I will also tell you that my Magellan 350 and single BA12-3 fills the large sanctuary without breaking a sweat and it's a big, open space. The sound guy LOVES the built-in DI as it's dead quiet. No need for that Radial I bought a little while back. A little compression and chorus and I'm good to go. Been using a Warwick Starbass with flats on it and it's an awesome sound that the musicians in the crowd always compliment.
I think it's a great way to just get out and play and make some people happy at the same time!

Right at 2 years in with my Genzler 800 and BA210-3 arrays and I still love them as good as I did the first time I used them. I've never had gear that get's complimented as much as this setup. I play on average 2-3 different church setting weekly and all are different and the Genzler slays every time. It put to end my Bass amp Gas.

Right there with you. Two 12-3 cabs (#34 and 35, I think) for about 2 years, Magellan will be 2 years in a couple of months. Jeff just posted my setup as a “Genzler in the wild” on FB, and I also commented that this is it (despite all the great new stuff coming out).

I bought the Genzler Magellan 350 in April of this past year not thinking I would ever need the 800. And of course, as it turns out, I've joined a band that plays at pretty high volume and would also like to hear a little growl to my tone. Go figure.
Anyway, if someone did the opposite and perhaps overbought by picking up an 800 and would prefer the 350 along with some extra cash, please let me know. The difference in price new was about $300 so I'm guessing a swap would be in that ballpark. Mine is in like new condition with box and packaging. Yours would be likewise.
If anyone else has suggestions, I'm all ears. I know I can sell on eBay or CL or Reverb but a nice easy swap would be my first choice.

I'm pretty sure that Jeff said the announcement would happen in the first week of January.
I have been debating if I overbought when I got an 800. But if I traded I’d want to trade my 800 and BA12-3 for a 350 and 10-2 for a combo.
Then again, you can always turn down. I wish the BA12-3 was just a little smaller footprint.
