If you're speaking of the knobs on an MG800, I haven't had a chance to try one yet. I do have a Streamliner and it too has a built in fixed HPF.

If you're speaking of the knobs on an MG800, I haven't had a chance to try one yet. I do have a Streamliner and it too has a built in fixed HPF.
This might sound like a negative post in a positive thread - but if you are a Genzler fan, "amp du jour" is not in your vocabulary.
There is probably a way to chain a bunch of amps together to produce "muscle car" ungodly wattage - but why?
I'll go to a store and try out some other stuff - just to see. But, as other posters have pointed out, with such amazing versatility, reliability and "Hello, I'm Jeff" customer service - why go anywhere else?

Talkbass definitely goes through a flavor of the week. I like the Magellan - simple to use. Make the light blue and turn the contour knob until my ears are happy. I know that's a bedroom sound and I'm not supposed to like it, but I do. High pass the bass, push the mids, are we playing bass or baritone guitar? Heh.

There are definitely other guys making nice gear and they have fantastic CS as well. I've played some of it. I was tempted. But in the end, I don't need/want too many features and menus and such. I like the simple yet useful Genzler amps. I don't use an amp much - jazz gigs, farmer's market, etc - so I don't need a big rig. I am fine with my MG350 Tall 12 combo. It's also less expensive which is a consideration for some of us. I got my entire rig for less than another builders amp.

Then how do you know you need more mids and tighter bottom?
just saying because I am so pleased with my Magellan - it lacks for nothing. I had an svt in the 80’s and it can almost cop that sound. I had a trace in the 90’s (still have it actually) and it can cop that sound. It can be heavily scooped or super mid forward. It’s like the Swiss Army knife of tone. Lots of power, light as hell. And clean as all get out.
the only improvement I can see is a 2 channel foot switch to change to dirty or to change contours. But as is - it’s very nearly perfect.
I hope it's nothing I "really" need. I am really happy with my current rig.

I agree with Loring. I don't know that there's anything tubes would bring to the party that would make me want them. The Magellan front end is so versatile and simply sounds great. At the same time, I know there are folk who feel like they just have to have tubes... so it could be what we'll see next week.
I have both (Streamliner 600 and Magellan 800) and set at 12:00, they are completely different beasts. I agree that the Magellan is definitely not lacking in mids whatsoever.
I never said the MG800 lacked mids. I did say I haven't tried one yet. I also said I would like to see a Streamliner-type amp with a tighter bottom and more mid capability. And... I was being semi-sarcastic regarding all the speculation about new product. For lack of an emoji I've apparently upset you. My apologies.

the streamliner sounds like a great product also - along with the new cabs I also have a neo 12 from that era - good stuff!

I'm not sure why some folks seem to think that big wattage always means big volume? That's almost never the case. Like I said earlier, you could drown out an entire band with 500 or 600w and good cabs, so sheer volume isn't what any of this would be about.
100% agree with everything you said! That power module is everywhere, and it's in some really nice stuff!
I'm also well aware of Jeff Genzler's customer service. I had an issue with my BA410, and he not only helped me troubleshoot, but offered a solution that I received the next day! That's why I have a BA210 also...
Agreed! As would a vertical 112 with the Array setup.
I hate to derail the conversation but I have a quick question. I have a 12-3 coming in tomorrow. I am still waiting to find an 800 to drive it and wanted to fiddle around with the Ampeg head I have on hand. I don’t have a speakon cable and forgot to order one when I bought the cabinet. I can’t use the 1/4” parallel jack for connecting the Ampeg, can I? If not, I’ll have to get an inexpensive Neutrik adaptor from my local GC.
