Genzler Amplification Club

All this talk about G&L and Genzler is forcing me to comment. I got my BA12-3 today. Of course I'm using it with a cheap Ampeg Micro CL (that is until I can find a nice deal on an 800). But, it definitely helped the low end on my L2000 Tribute. My CLF L1000 has always had a much fuller low end and boy, with the BA12-3 it's really something to behold. I played the CLF through an 800/12-3 a couple of months ago and that's what sent me down this path. Now it's only a matter of time before I add the 800 and I'll be set.

But, getting back to the Tribute/US G&L equipment, I feel the Tribute stuff is great for the money and more than most people will every need. My Tribute had TI Power Bass rounds on it and I just swapped out to LaBella LTF's and it sounds wonderful. But, it's not like my CLF. The E string on my CLF has such authority, especially coming through the 12-3. It makes me wonder what a Tribute L2500 must be like in comparison to a US L2500. I don't say any of this to diss the Tribute. I really enjoy mine and at $635 it's an incredible value. I also know I'll ultimately be replacing it with a US version.

It's hard to justify stepping up to a US L2000 at almost 3 times the cost but, to me, in the long run, I'll at least not have to deal with the nagging, "what if's" that I get whenever I know there's something else that might be better out there. It's why I went with the 12-3 instead of the 10-2. When I heard it, with the 800, I just knew it was right. I flirted with the idea of the MG12TV but in the end the only "what if" I have to deal with now is the thought of another cabinet.

I took the leap, I finally bought a Magellan 350 combo!! I received my combo last Friday and after working with it the past 48 hours I am totally sold on Genzler gear. I could NOT believe the amount of sound this mini combo produces. The quality is impeccable! I tried my Ibanez electric UB and my MM Sterling four and the sound was night and day between the Array and my current SWR setup. So much so that I posted my SWR gear for sale so that I can start adding on 10-2 cabinets.
Mad respect to Jeff Genzler, your engineering is amazing!

I played a Shuttle 3.0 and a Shuttle 9.0 for a good while. I loved my Shuttles. Indeed, they are what inspired me to look at the Genzler heads before anything else. I do find the Magellans to be an upgrade over the Shuttles. To my ears, both Magellans speak with more authority than did the Shuttles while preserving the transparency I appreciated.

I played a SHuttle 6.0-12T combo for long time. Great amps. I had a GBE 750. A Shuttle 3.0-10T Combo. Shuttle Max 12.0. A 212T Cab. The Neo-Pak 3.5 was probably my favorite.

Loving my MG350-Tall 12 combo these days.
I also really like the NEO PAK and actually prefer it over the Shuttle 6.2, but the Streamliner is definitely my favorite Genz Benz amp.

Anybody running the Magellan at 16 ohms?

Hi @JeffGenzler, or others who have good info on this:

Some folks have reported good results using their Streamliner heads into a 16 ohm load to get a good tubey tone at lower volumes. Should we expect the MG800 to perform similarly?

And/or, could we leave the selector switch set for 2.67 ohms to get similar results? Is that safe?

I am using my MG800 with the Drive channel exclusively, both knobs set about 12 p.m.

(Presumably, just running the preamp volume low and the master volume high doesn't achieve this....)

Thanks!

Yeah you don’t need the 16 ohm. Just turn up your drive further and the volume down...

what I do is go clean first - set input gain till the clip lights up then back off 1/8 turn.

then go dirty volume down and crank gain till I get the dirt I want - then I turn up the volume to match clean so I have unity swapping back and forth.

you can play a bit with contour b as well to cop a more traditional tubey sealed cab kind of sound - I would start at about halfway and even go up 3/4 there - can get the Cream sound...

Which of you folk will be at NAMM? It will be interesting to hear impressions of it (to the degree one can hear anything accurately at NAMM).
I go each year as a guest of Lowden Guitars so I’ll give it a listen if I can.

Awesome design - thanks for sharing! It was hard to get a sense of the tonal possibilities, but it seemed to me that the video recording mic pre was being overdriven. Some unintentional fuzziness in the sound when Sean dug in. Anyone else hear that? I'm looking forward to checking out the BA15-3 SLT in person!
