One gig I wasn't happy with my volume for my usual volume and tone settings. Thought it was me or the guitar player was playing too loud. At the break I found that ohm switch was accidentally over at the 2.67 setting. I corrected that and bam! I was back in business and getting "bass is too loud complaints" from my guitar player....

you need to try the drive channel and the b contour. I think you’ll find the 800 can cop many of the amps you mentioned including GK and Ampeg - maybe into Marshall territory if you really crank the drive...

And yes it also does hifi really really well!

If this was just a hi fi head I would've tossed it. With the right bass and can, it rocks.

It's a fantastic amp. I kind of wish I needed to use it more often. Easy to carry. Sounds great. Looks cool. Maybe this summer we'll get some of our farmers market/winery type gigs back where I use the amp.

You can use a wrench as a hammer. In a pinch it will do the trick, but it’s not the ideal tool for the job.

The MG800 can cop a lots of tones, the benefit of a very neutral bass tone that mostly just projects the tone of the wood and pickups. Not trying to rag on it by any means. It’s my favorite head and I’ve owned a few. Though part of its favorite status is the fact that it weighs like 6 pounds and fits in a tiny little bag!

Have to disagree here. It’s more like a toolbox with a wrench and a hammer.

I can get trace Elliot tones and ampeg tones out of it quite easily - I miss neither my svt nor my trace. If I want something gnarlier I can get that too. It doesn’t go into distortion or fuzz territory but that’s what pedals are for...

I don't have a ton of experience with individual amp heads but I agree with you. The drive channel isn't a blank slate that translates the wood and pickups 1:1, there is a certain familiar amp breakup sound baked in there that I've heard on rock and metal records before. Throw some pedals into it and it screams in a good way. I can't quit the contour B man.

Recently bought a Magellan 212T to go with my Magellan 800 head - gigged for the first time last Saturday night. And, straight away after the show I was complimented by a bass player in the audience on my awesome tone!! Yay! First time in 38 years of playing LOL. Great rig, can't envisage needing much else, Cheers Jeff Genzler

After trying the Mesa SW115 and both the Genzler BA15-3 and BA10-2, I believe I have found the right match for my WD800. The MG-112T-V hits the sweet spot for me. Switching the WD to the 2 ohm position gets me 300 watts for a single 8 ohm cabinet. It sounds amazing and the Tall boy 112 really slams. Remarkable little cab. Too much fun not to add a second, or possibly an MG210 if that becomes a reality. Have to wait and see what Jeff has in the works. I haven't played a 15 cab. I have the MG12T-V and allI can say is it has a great sound. I use it with a 5 string Roscoe and the B string sounds amazing. It's loud enough and with enough bottom for me to play with a jazz quartet outside and be heard - and even felt. I have a hard time describing tone. It is different from the BA10-2 I had before. It was very hard for me to tell a distinct difference between them when I went back and forth. The array speakers certainly have that dispersion that people like. I like that the 12 is a little taller, a little louder and and maybe a little more full. For my gigs, I don't want/need to haul around a big cab. The 12 is just so easy to carry.

I owned the SW115 and BA15-3 at the same time, so I did a lot of comparisons. Both are great, but I chose the BA15-3 over the SW. I really struggled with the decision to let the BA15-3 go. The only negative was the footprint. I play in some tight spaces and the 23" width was going to give me issues down the line. The MG12-T-V is obviously a much smaller cabinet, and yes, I found the more vintage voice of the MG a better pairing with the WD800

The 15-3 is to me perfect for giving a high performance cab with an acceptable footprint that will work in many situations.
