aux in is for outside sources like music to play along with - it is only controlled by master and bypasses the preamp controls.

I guess you could use it the way you describe but if I needed that functionality- I’d recommend going to the 800 which has a proper send and return as well as aux and a very good drive channel.

I’m planning on going to a town about an hour away to try both of them out when I get a chance, but I doubt I need the 800 for my purposes. There’s quite a difference in price between them over here so the aux in as a return is not really something I need but more like a “handy if it works” kind of thing.

Im currently playing a TC BAM 200 but I’m looking for something with more oomph and punch for my barefaced big baby 2 cab. Has anyone here compared the Magellan 350 (175@ 8 ohm) with the TC BAM (allegedly 140 @ 8ohm, which I doubt.). I want more power but on paper it seems to be only 35W, but I have a feeling there is more to it.
I have the funds for the 800, but I’m not sure if I need it, feel free to convince me .

also, it seems like the mg 350/800 can emulate a lot of other amps, but does it react well with preamps such as onboard Sadowsky and noble preamps? Or am I better going straight in?

i bought both a 350, and 800 too. I find not same.
I suggest buy the 800, its mutch better sound. (I has BA12-3 slant, 112T, powered by 350 its hars, crude compared to 800, which is smooth, balanced sound - all knob same 12.00). 350 sound wearing- dont like, i didnt sent it back, i keep it reserve)

Interesting comments. You are the first, that I recall, owner of the 350 to make those comments about it. True, the 350 does not perform at the level the 800 does, but isn’t that something one would expect?

I have an 800 that I went to after having the 350 for a short time. The headroom and drive channel were key deciding elements. I also bought a BAM200 just to keep in my bag. It's fine for what it is...small practice head to go with my Phil Jones C5 cabinet and a backup. But it is nowhere near the quality, durability, and power of the 800. But I find that the two are very complementary (they say nice things about one another all the time).

It was a steal here locally and I kind of knew about the bass and bough it purely on looks. It wasn't till about 5 years later that I realized the bass is probably one of my bests and favorites.

I'll donate my old Marshall 1X15 combo amp to you instead.

So far as I know, same EQ, same preamp. No OD, different power module, which can make a difference in sound, but I've owned both and will second the "pretty much the sam" to my ears.

well that’s awesome that you got it cheap! Always been one of my dream basses but they are so pricey on the used market, I’ve never pulled the trigger. Always loved Stu Hamm’s tone when he played one. Glad you like it! And welcome to the club, seriously, the Genzler stuff is primo.

Before COVID-19, I was gigging monthly at this bar/eatery and used my 350 Combo/12-3 stacked and that was a perfect combination. I didn’t miss the 800! My 350 Combo is my grab and go for rehearsals, too. I just really like its versatility and portability! My 800 was used for larger outside gigs and for the weekly Sunday services, powering a pair of Avatar cabs and a line out to the house.

I’ve used that 350 Combo/12-3 stack at the inside gig with a 4-piece horn section, lead guitar, keys, acoustic drums, 3 background vocals and lead vocals doing songs from Earth, Wind & Fire, Maze, Stevie Wonder & Bruno Mars and never had the amp pass 11:00!
Now, I don’t play Rock or Metal, so I only need to project a nice solid bottom to groove with and not ruin hearing.
I’ve entertained getting another 12-3 SLT to pair with my 12-3 and run those with my 800, but frankly it would be a nice to have, not a need!
I have the 350 Combo, 12-3 SLT, 410-3 and the 800. So far, I’ve not found where, with this gear, I’m inadequate. Your situation may vary!

I have the 350 and have briefly had a BAM, which I disliked. The 350 has way more oomph than the TC. I have played some pretty loud situations and never once felt like I needed the 800. I think there's a lot of BS around the subject of wattage. I played in loud bands in the past with 100 watt amps!

The only thing I really miss from the 800 is the OD. I don't like wasting space on my board with OD since I so rarely use it. Power wise the 350 has been enough for me. If I need more dB I just add another cab.
