when using speaker cables, it matters not if you send 2 outputs to 2 cabs, or daisy chain them.
It is not recommended by any manufacturer (that I know of ) to use instrument cables in lieu of speaker cables.

Sooooooooooooo right on this point!!!! Instrument cables should NEVER touch the speaker jacks. BUT if you're short of SPEAKON cables, yes you can use a SPEAKON from the amp to cab 1 and a 1/4 to 1/4 SPEKAER CABLE to connect the second cab to the first.

To agree even more the 15” I was Leary about adding at first cause I didn’t want more thump. The single 15” did that enough on it’s own. But I did need something to make my higher notes pop and like I said earlier make my fx cut through mix. While the single cab will do just fine especially if you are just a plug and play guy, you nailed it saying adding a second 15” is heavinly! I’m almost positive no one in my music scene locally has genzler anything and the opens mics usually have house bass amps. I plan to bring my single 15” cab “ so damn lite why not” and I want the scene to hear this bass tone. Most certainly I think I will get a reaction for the scene once they hear what these genzlers can do!! The cabs are second to none!


I have the megellan 800 head an you are so right!!! The littlest turn of Eq changes it all. I play jam music so like all generas get thrown in and I have a fender jazz this pretty easy to dial in, but then I have a Spector Euor 5 the newer ones and they have a sensitive eq on the bass so there’s still some figuring out to do.

To add thump to the jazz. Then the second channels is great for the Spector cause that bass comes with so much lows channel two does a good job trimming those edges.

J basses really do love that modern contour, huh? My 62 AVRI comes alive on that channel.

Had another rehearsal last night and thought I comment on how the BA15-3 SLT works as a stand alone cab.

In our rehearsal studio we have a nice controlled volume situation. (Drummer uses his Roland TD-50 kit) I am not using my pedalboard and just plugging directly into the Magellan 800 using the Drive channel, Contour A around 10:00 position and everything else at noon.

The best way to describe how this cab sounds is nice round Lows with defined Mids & smooth Highs. This cab just glues you into the mix. I boosted the treble on my Sadowsky onboard pre just to bring out a little more 4K in the highs. Man, does this cab react to subtle eq boosts.

For the person thinking of having 2 BA15-3s DO IT!!! This is an amazing cab that I am really enjoying playing through as a stand alone cab! But, having 2 would be amazing! It does it all unlike any 15” cab on the market.

If you have been thinking about getting or adding the BA15-3 SLT cab to your rig, I highly recommend it. It really is a pleasing sounding cab that can produce beautiful lows with articulation. Love this cab!!

Hey captain G, quick question:
I want to run my MG800 into a friend’s Sunn 2x15 because I like to party. The cab only has 1/4” inputs on back. Am I better off with a speakon to 1/4” cable, or using an adapter with a more standard 1/4” speaker cable? What is the preferred approach in this situation?

Yes!!! I barley have to touch the eq at all, or I can dial in whatever very easily with my j-bass man, I use a sansamp like a eq, I keep it incase something ever goes wrong with my head “god forbid” then the Sansamp is my “backup amp” but since I don’t use it much I use it like a eq pedal somewhat and I find myself only using it to add some bass to the bass and just fine tunning everything else. I didn’t want to increas the bass on the amp cause I felt like I found the sweet spot. It’s bad for me to admit but I think the jbass is much easier to work with then my Spector Euro has been. But with the darkglass preamp in it an the touchy genzler eq I think it’s just a matter of me learning to dial

Tbh someone put on here awhile bakc exactly how i felt it was funny, they put “I know I know channel two isn’t the best but trust me at band levels it’s amazing” lol and I feel like whoever posted that awhile back him and I were in the minority cause eveyone seems to love the 2nd channel the most. I just didn’t like it at all at low volumes, but the poster was right at band volumes and especially with my Spector being so bassy anyway, channel 2 ended up being the go to when I switch basses.

I’m actually not a big fan of bass distortion. The soul food for bass is the closest thing I’ve heard that I enjoy, Maybe it’s cause I still play guitar and I’m use to that sound but I just think bass distortion is meh. I love the sound Rush gets and Lee when he steps on the distortion. He’s about the only bassist “so far” I really liked the distortion. But maybe that’s a effect that sounds better at louder volumes. But I am trying to make the 2nd channel clean as possible but learning to like a little bite here and there I just think I have to find the right sound. Hell my old ts9 woulda been fine on bass if it didn’t cut all the bass lol.

So does anyone use the tuner out for anything particular? I was reading in the manual in can do something with a recording device. Is the main purpose of that slot just to have silent tuning incase your tuner doesn’t?

Also, when do you usually want to go down from 8ohm? The 2.67 I think it is is meant for a lot of speaker configuration correct? I have 15”x2 so 8 ohms should be fine?

and finally I’ve asked this before so sorry if I people repeat themselves, but has anyone found that a pedal sound better in the fx loop vs just normal set up? I’m just curious if I should be taking advantage of any of these great features this amp has. Thank you thumpers!

You are thinking of adding a second 15” genzler SLT Arry cab? Take it from me, if finance allows, DO IT! I battled with it forever and now I added it lord have mercy! I wasn’t looking for volume anyway when I added it I was wanting to have something to help my fx cut through mix at band levels. Then also just fill it up more an wow did it just fill up the room so much mroe. I was able to turn down the amp overall and just it sounded sssooo smooth and room
Filling. These cabs are amazing, I was going to get the 10” but the 15” just looks so good stacked. You won’t regret it man, I’m so shocked at how these 15” obviously thump but also how they can pick up the littest stuff and not like sound all flubby. These cabs are truly amazing! I can’t wait to bust them out on my local scene!

Awesome set up & your Spector is gorgeous. Question; When you stack a a slant cab on top of a slant cab how do you keep the amp from sliding off at higher volumes? Genuinely curious.

I will try to answer based on my experience in order...

as to distortion- it seems very tube like - you can definitely get a jack bruce sound really easily but if you want Geddy Lee, you’ll need to crank your mids as well.

I don’t use my tuner out at all but it would be great for those with a rack mount tuner I’d want to keep one running all the time.

Leave it at 8 ohms till you go below 4ohms (like when you add your third speaker)

pedals tend to not sound better in the effects loop and it’s really meant for rack mount kind of setups. Also it depends if you want the dirty channel to feed your effects or your effects to feed the dirty channel. I use all of mine before though the H9 would be a good candidate for the loop if I was only using time based effects (delay and reverb). I have two types of distortion on my pedal board plus the genzler drive. I can then do neat things like distortion before or after my wah and even both like a sandwich.

effects can get really experimental and there is no right or wrong but - most pedals are not designed to handle the output from the effects loop. Especially distortion that can add a lot of gain. I would stick to in front of the amp unless you have a bonafide reason to not do so.

Two BA15-3 SLT's is, indeed, a wonderful setup. The volume/tone capabilities for the size/weight cannot be fully appreciated until you get it out on a gig. Just amazing! These cabs are unbelievably light, and just a joy to move/load, but man, do they deliver "big tone!"

I knew there was a picture of a 12T-V stack somewhere. Everyone loves their BA15 stacks and BA12-3 x 3 and whatever, but the MG12T-V with the MG350 head makes a darn nice stack as well. If I played with an amp more and needed more than just the 350/12 combo, I think this is the way I'd go.

Strange Question:

One of my power amps failed, and I'm waiting for a replacement. You think I could use my MG800 to power two of my small subs for one night? They're 8-ohm subs and are crossed over. If it was any other head, I'd just go ahead and do it, but I really don't feel like sacrificing my "baby."

Yup!
Plug your line into the AUX IN of the Genzler and have at it.

I used my Genzler MG800 as a power amp quite a bit. Have not turned the thing on but a few times in the last year though...

@smogg ---- A good observation and question. With the Magellan 800, there is no issue of the amp sliding back when sitting atop 2 slanted BA cabs. We use a very soft rubber foot and this "sticks" the head to the cab, without issues.
