I have wondered why Jeff hasn't come out with a DI box similar to that of the mesa D-800 DI. Seems as though it would sale good as I know I would buy one immediately. It's not a big deal to just pack my Genzler 800 but it would be nice.

Ha...we've discussed this but chose to deliver a "powered DI" instead which is the Magellan 350. Partly having fun here but I would certainly consider this as part of the flexibility this new 3 lb amp delivers.

I think the Genzler 350 covers it....I know I'm tempted by the combo! Some of the boutique pedals are not far off the price of the full blown Genzler 350 head.

True, but it's still a head that doesn't lend itself to pedal board placement.

This question may have been asked before but I was wondering that if Jeff could comment on something. As you know the tube - not tube - issue has been around for a loooooong time. As a STM900 user/lover... it's filled with several nicely glowing warm glass modules which made me wonder about the new heads. Could you discuss a little about why in the new MG's you had chosen to go completely solid state instead of having the option of tube usage as in previous models. Is tubes a thing of the past for Genzler in the amplification world etc. Just curious!

Thanks for the question. As I've stated before This new endeavor allowed us to start with a clean slate regarding our designs. Certainly the Bass Array is reflective of that and when it came to amplifier design we wanted to embrace that completely.
Scott and I had a lot of brainstorming sessions discussing the tube no tube issue.
It really came down to all of our past experience with designing tube preamps that we felt we could capture the essence of what players liked about tube preamps by using various solid state circuitry as well as a versatile feature set. This was a big reason we developed the Contour B circuit AND the reason Scott designed the DRIVE channel to respond as it does. We're hearing more and more from players that are discovering the subtle nuances of this channel.
Is there room in a line like ours for an all tube preamp design? Sure and there is a pretty unigue offering on the Product Roadmap down the line.
But for so many players a solid state design like the Magellan 800 gives them all of the options they want from an amplifier.

I have to be honest and say with the Shuttlemax 9.2, I use the clean channel nearly all the time. Obviously with the Streamliner it's a different thing, and an equally good tone, but different. I suspect if I ever wanted a new amp I'd go for the Magellan.

I have my sights firmly planted on the little MG350 head. The feature set is perfect for my needs and I run clean pretty much all the time. The lack of tubes, providing that the amp will deliver the warmth of my Shuttle 6.2 and TH350 is a bonus. Looking forward to more reviews.

If I was staring from scratch, the combo and an addition 110, would do it all for me, but I am not ready to part with my Crazy 88 and TC115 just yet.

The combo is probably really nice. I have the "grandfather" version of that - a Shuttle 3.0-10T with a Shuttle 110 extension cab for a great "mini stack" for home practice and small jazz type background gigs.

So, bit of a potential issue with one of my array cabs. First, is there anything in the drivers that might look like brown paper?

The reason I ask is that I noticed something had somehow gotten inside of one of my cabs which appears to be some kind of brown paper or cardboard. No idea how it would have gotten inside the cab, but hoping it's not like a part of a paper cone or anything. I don't notice any damage, in any case.

I wouldn't think too much of it except that the same cab has started "farting" on lower notes at certain intensities. It's not consistent, but I can reliably reproduce it by hitting lower notes hard enough.

Initially it was quite infrequent and I thought it might be coming from one of my pedals, but last night I was jamming for the time with my new Reverend Decision which a little more low-end thumpy than my Dimension, and it was happening noticeably throughout the jam.

Not really sure what the best thing is to do to address it, but any suggestions are appreciated.

New Cab Day coming soon! Ordered a BA12-3 from Bass Strings Online today. Can't wait to try out with the Magellan.

I currently have a Berg HDN212 that I pair with the Magellan. I'm curious if the BA12-3 will sound good on top of the Berg (together @ 2.6) or if I'll end up selling the Berg for a second BA12-3 or what. Kinda hoping they sound good together. I'm all about matching stuff but this could get interesting.

Well it certainly is. A coulpe of excellent players are running this rig through the paces for upright as we speak. Reviews will be forthcoming.
