The Boy had his final middle school jazz performance tonight. The MG-800/NC-212T combo was SOLID! Punchy when needed, but so mellow as to not diminish the rest of his band mates. Can’t wait for his 115 to arrive. Not a bad deal for a 14-year-old.

Totally! Last weekend I had very little space on stage but the NC-212 fit nicely between the drums and the guitar amp. My old Fender would have required more room. And of course the 212 sounds way bigger than it looks

Mine was a Peavey TNT Black Widow 15 combo, early 80s. At 14, it was a bit awkward to carry. I don’t miss the amp, now that I have Genzler’s you can port in one arm, but I do miss the Carvin curly maple LB40 bass. I used to just stare at the wood… Had it for 13 years, until someone raided my storage room through the ceiling while I was out of town.

Thanks @Jeff Genzler - when I was his age my interest was photography - we were a very blue collar family and I was incredibly thankful for the help my parents could afford. My wife and I are happy that we can support him and his twin sister in their passions - ironically, they both have contributed a TON of their own $ toward those goals, but the more we can do now, the better.

Some of y’all complaining about your beefy Peaveys never spent your teens playing through the amp that came with your Sears catalog bass and it shows!

This is the amp MY Dad helped me buy when I was 14. Got it with my Cort Steinberger copy literally from the Sears catalog. I still remember the Denver radio station it would pick up late at night (I live in MN). Can that exquisite Genzler rig do that?! It’s a wonder I stayed with it. Good on you for getting your boy some nice kit to help fuel the passion!

I tell my son the same. He bought his guitars, but his amp was a Christmas gift (50 watt 12" should be plenty for the rest of his life) and he uses my G&L JB-2 and my Genzler MG350/12T-V for when he wants do do some bass noodling.

Pffft, I used to lift my Peavey Combo 300 (1x15) 100 lb amp with one single strap on the top into the back seat my mother's 2-door (!!) car to rehearsal every week when I was in high school. The jam room was up a flight of stairs too! It sounded good though.

So cool. My youngest son just started bass and 6th grade jazz band in Jan. The had their first performance on Sun, but unfortunately it was not a Genzler rig. It was straight DI and not loud enough. I am more than happy to let him borrow my BA 15-3 for future performances.

I have rejoined the Magellan ranks. I had a 350, but sold it when a mint Streamliner 600 came up for sale. I love the Streamliner but some of my gigs, particularly with upright bass require a bit more attack. So, I just bought a Magellan 800 which will serve me for the upright gigs and the Streamliner will serve the bass guitar gigs. Me happy chappy.

Do you find the Magellan 800 differs significantly in volume and/or tone compared to the 350?

tone the same. max volume and "presence" is higher with the bigger head. plus the tone sculpting features in the 800 are a great addition. I have owned both, not at the same time, but over time.

Thought I better clarify. My upright has Eurosonic lights on it because of arthritis in both hands. Because they are steel core but synthetic coated they are a little "soft" sounding with the Streamliner. The Magellan gives them more attack at the front of the note.
