Genzler Amplification Club

Question: if I really just want a little harmonic richness, and not nasty distorted tones, will my MG800 drive channel suffice? I do play in a loud hard rock band along with lots of other styles so that would be the primary application. But based on the amount of you buying and using the new Genzler pedals along with the MG800, I'd love to hear just why it's necessary? Mind you, finding reasons to buy new gear is not a challenge for me so it probably won't take much. Maybe even a good video or two would convince, especially "in context" as my producer likes to say.

TIA!
Yes, the Magellan will give you all the grit you need.
I don’t think it’s necessary but in a trio setting (thinking of Rush and Cream, Sabbath too, although technically a quartet) it helps fill out the sound a bit. It’s just a choice you make.

I have a GK 700rb 2x10 combo that I've been wondering if I can use to power a 12-3. It looks to be possible as the amp will apparently "sense" what's plugged into it. But to be on the safe side, will the 12-3 be ok in this situation?

For reference: Bi-Amp And Normal Operation; 700Rb Setup For Bi-Amp Operation; 700Rb Setup For Normal Operation; 700Rb Setup Up For Bi-Amp Operation - Gallien-Krueger 700RB series Owner's Manual [Page 7]
Should be fine, but you’re probably going to want to just run it in full range mode and turn the tweeter off on the GK cab. I’d put the 12-3 on top if you can, although you’ll have to be careful with the balance since the 12-3 is rather deep and I believe the GK combo is a kickback.

Has anyone compared a 3xBA112 stack versus the BA115 + BA210 stack?

Based on the videos online I'm really digging the tone of the 115/210 combo. From recollection of using that combination of speakers long ago (GK, Peavey) I recall they layer really well together. That is, the 115 and 210 don't necessarily blend together into one single tone like a 112 and 210 seem to. But rather, the individual tones of the 115 and the 210 seem to remain individually recognizable. (That's what I'm hearing in Nate Navarro's and Andy Irvine's videos anyway.)

However, a 3xBA112 stack has a significantly smaller footprint and is taller (48 inches versus 33.5 inches), both of which seem like plusses. Speaker surface area is essentially equal (334 in/sq2 versus 339 in/sq).

Any thoughts/preferences of you've used either or both?

I have the Magellan 800 and the 115/210 cabs. Perfect for what I am doing (Jazz/fusion). Very clear and crisp no mudd, almost piano like. I really like the clarity and the thunderous low end from the 15.

Well, A few weeks ago I blew out my original GB Neox 212. I can't complain because it's been rocking with me for 12 years including a three-year stint touring around Europe. Replaced it with a Nu classic 212. Immediately out the box the smaller size and lighter weight was so apparent. Almost had me wondering did they mistake a 2 10 for my 212 lol. Finally got a chance to gig it last weekend and this thing sounds amazing! Now I see what people mean with the adjectives tight and focused. My tone sounds so good through it, and when I had to slap some tunes it was still so crispy and full. On top of that it's a one hand carry, and I can fit everything in the trunk of my Toyota Camry. Genzler never lets me down. Still debating a 210/15 Nu Classic rig, but I might be set.

Lakland through Genzler definitely has my GAS on pause at the moment - it's a pretty magical combination.

Now you just have to spring for a cover for that 212 to keep it safe in the trunk!

A very supportive +1 to that combination.

First time using the Crash Box on a gig today and it was great. It was on the entire time. I don’t think I’ve ever had a distortion pedal always on.
Due to non-Covid and Covid illnesses and vacations we had not practiced in 6-weeks which was before I bought the pedal.
It’s a duo gig playing covers and originals - Americana-ish covers, I guess. John Prine, Lucinda Williams, CCR so the pedal was mostly low gain. Cranked her up to 3rd gear here and there. My bass was a P with flats. Amp and cab - Magellan 800 into an Audiokinesis Hathor 1203.
A pic of my settings and the scene.

Question - On the Nu Classic cabs, when you turn down/off the tweeter control, are the tweet frequencies still sent to the woofers? In other words, do the frequencies below the crossover point only go the woofers and the freqs above the crossover point go only to the tweeters?
@JoePP Regarding the Nu Classic crossover, the woofers all run full range and the crossover controls only the tweeter, so when you turn down or turn off the tweeter your still getting all the top end of the woofers. This is to assist those players that don't want tweeter response in their cabs. Hope this answers your question.

I had the chance to use my 12-3 slant today with a Megoliath at practice today. An odd pairing for sure but I really just wanted to see how the 12-3 sounds live since it’s been in my practice room mostly. The projection was much improved for me and the top end was extended quite a bit compared to just the megoliath. Very punchy and present. Really enjoyed it. Left it at the practice space to use as a sort of monitor for the guitar and drums since they have trouble hearing me sometimes. I use a lot of distortion and the Megoliath seems to project line of sight. I don’t see a Genzler stack replacing the SWR but it was a nice addition.
