Jeff do you think a preamp tubed pedal is in the future? Like a pedal version of the kinetic? Obviously it couldn’t all be contained in a pedla but i just wonder if you guys have something like the Magellan pre with a tube in it somethint to that effect in line? That would be amazing as well although I’ve heard the 4 on floor can sound tuby.
Not really. The form factor would not be pedal board friendly. As for using the Kinetix for recording, you can run the amp without speakers connected. We had that question asked a few times already.

Gotcha! That’s pretty versatile and you’ve got a lot of watts with those two heads. Why do you run stereo? Are you using special reverbs or delays? I run two channels when I record but not necessarily stereo, one DI signal and a mic’d cab signal.

I do set up stereo effects. Being in a Grateful Dead tribute band (among others), we often play the space segments, so it's nice to have all those options.

Also, my bass is stereo, so every now and then, I run the rig with each pickup getting its own signal path.

Oh I’m sure you can just playing with it enough. I’m sure someone will chime in but if the Magellan could get the SVT tone solid I would think the kinetic will nail
It
My brother visited last week and brought his svt classic. He’s getting tired of hauling it in a road case up stairs, etc for gigs. To ally the Magellan stacks up just fine with the svt but, no amp will have that low end girth that a 300 watt power section provides. That is also the section that provides the really nice grind when pushed. I ran the Magellan preamp and Sansamp Paradriver v2 as preamps into the svt power section and preferred that sound. My brother is as pretty shocked. Ive told him these things for years but, sometimes you have to witness it for yourself. I have no doubt the kinetix amp is the next evolution but, it won’t have that girth. But, you may not even want that big sound. I can tell you, after moving that svt head again, I won’t ever gig with one again, I’d rather move the 810 any day.

As of now there is another Genzler mini rig of doom out there, this time it happens to be mine :). Yesterday I spent several hours comparing it to the other two amps I still own, a Mesa D-350 and an Aguilar TH-350. I've had several other amps I've parted with because they lost out to these two, so the Kinetix had some respectable competition. Long story made even longer, when I first hooked it up I was rather disappointed because it sounded rather boomy to me and the volume level I was getting didn't seem to match up with the levels I had set on the amp, even with the boost switch on. Then when I was getting ready to connect one of the other amps for my comparison I discovered that I had both speaker cables coming out from the back of the amp plugged into the same cab on the bottom of the stack. When I reconnected everything correctly it sounded like a beast! I'm still at the experimental stage with tone settings but I'll say that it's very easy to get a great tone without a lot of knob fiddling or switch flicking. The Stingray Special sounds wonderful through it, but then again it sounds great with the other two amps also. I am super impressed with how it makes my P bass sound, jaw dropping good! It sounds so organic and earthy, best it's ever sounded. It will really push these little 10" arrays and is capable of getting mighty loud. I can imagine 3 of these array cabs with the Kinetix would be a mini monster stack of doom. Not much to complain about with this amp I absolutely love it, but if I had to nitpick I wish the 3 tubes were visible through some sort of grill just for the coolness effect. Also, I wish it had a green or blue boost indicator light above the red mute light so that I wouldn't accidentally try to force the switch up when it was already on. I love that the fan noise is not too obtrusive and that the amp has a bit of heft to it so it sits pretty solidly on top of the speaker cab. This has now become my favorite amp. True, it's still in the honeymoon stage but I think this is one marriage that's going to last. Great job Jeff!

Thoughts on running the new Kinetix with my two 12T-V cabs? I've loved the all Mag combo but this new amp....can it get an SVT flavour going?
@BassTheory --- thanks for the question, and I believe that you've made the purchase in Australia. I think you'll find that the Kinetix will bring your MG-12T-V cabs to life and there certainly is an SVT flavor within this amp design. They can certainly handle the power of thiis amp. The FAT and LEAN settings might be something to experiment with, along with a little EQ as needed. Perhaps a little GAIN boost alng wiht a push in the Upper Mids to get some of the SVT growl.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have.

Bringing the thunder down under !
Yiew!

Love it, thanks Jeff! - while I dig the Magellan head, I'm so excited for this new one.

Those little cabs are powerhouses by the way and sound so great with dirt as well. Rock on!

I discovered that I had both speaker cables coming out from the back of the amp plugged into the same cab on the bottom of the stack.

I've never done that accidentally before- Speakons from both cab outs on a head connected to the two Speakon inputs of a single cab. It'd still be the same impedence, right? How does the amp react to what it's seeing for a load? Does the head eventually short or overload? Jeff, Andy?

Shouldn’t be any problem, the impedance the amp sees is simply the impedance of the single cabinet.

Back in the club house with a Magellan Pre. This one will be the heart of my small board.

I've thought about using one after my Stomp on my DI/IEM board for a DI and some easy access "tweakability" for eq as I'm not proficient enough on the Stomp to make quick changes live without the software. I've been kind of hung up on a tube DI but...

GLXD+ --> Stomp --> Magellan Pre/DI would be a respectable board. All on a Nano+ with a CIOKS DC7 underneath for power.

In my case, I use 2 small'ish boards. My HX, Synths and Midi controller live on one. The other has my wireless receiver and switcher and a pre. The Magellan EQ and Contour are there for room correction when I have backline.

My IEM configuration is still in a state of flux but off comes the Magellan and on goes ?

I'm shooting out a Nobellium and a Show Tube injector as I want a big fat round thing in my IEM's and FOH can deal with room correction... No way the Shaw will actually fit on that board. The Shaw is sooo fat. makes the Nobellium seem skinny. It even makes an Oracle seem skinny - no small feat. I'm new to the Shaw and also nobellium and more experience is needed.

The Shaw form factor is kind of awkward but... what I've been using is an Ampeg PF-20T so not as large a thing for me as it might be for other folks.

I'm curious how the shoot out will go. If you are getting into the Shaw price range, why not consider a Kinetix?

For a tubey fat sound, I've found that the Effectrode LA-1A with the Barber Linden is pretty pleasing. Nice and fat but not boomy at all. I really want to squeeze the Linden onto my board.

@edwinhurwitz So far the Shaw is way out front in the tube department.

Tonight I am bringing an amp though and... Small room. Magellan ==> GK MB-200 ==> MAS 15/5. Normally I'd use my PF-20 T there but testing this morning I was able to dial in Contour A&B to my liking so I'm, fully solid state for the first time in ages.

There is still time for the little 'peg to get loaded if I chicken out though ;-)

The Kinetix looks way cool. Maybe Jeff will put me on his street team and I'll be able to afford one ;-) Actually what would float me more would be a Kinetix preamp as more and more of my gigs are on IEM. Rackable would be fine by me. I still have a B MaxT - not exotic but still really darned good. (That from an Alembic F2B and F1X fan.)

The Kinetix seems to me like the Jack of all Trades I have been waiting for since some time.

I was testing Tube/Class-D-hybrids before, also Mesa and also tube preamps in front of a pure class D like the EBS Valve drive. Never got what I wanted, so I stick to my SVT-3pro and the Tonehammer350. The 3 tube section now is highly attractive (as you mostly get one single tube in most other hybrids), also the tube driven DI-out etc.

Though I wonder how the Genzler will work paired with non-original cabs as I use Aguilar SL112's and DB112's. Indeed I asked Bass Buddha who seems to be the only european store actually having the Kinetix in stock. They tested the Kinetix on the SL112's and said it's amazing aswell and should be happy with it.

We will see if I might pull the trigger next week.

The KINETIX 800 works beautifully with my Bag End cabs. It’s a great new release from Genzler
