I moved from the Shuttle 9.0 to the Magellan 800 shortly after the Magellan was released. My take on the difference is that the Magellan has more authority in every register. I loved the Shuttle but the Magellan was a clear upgrade. I got what I loved in the Shuttle but got more of everything.
As for the 350 vs the 800, I've owned both and think they sound virtually identical at the same volume on the clean channel. if you don't need what the 800 adds, the 350 kills it. If you need/want the added headroom, 2nd channel, additional I/O, go for the 800

Yeah, I guess that was part of what I was wondering about. My current setup is much more humble than yours, I’d be upgrading from a Shuttle 3.0 to a Magellan 350. I play jazz in small venues so it would be more of a tone upgrade than a quest for more power or volume.

Looking around here in the UK, if I wanted to upgrade from the 3.0, I could get a brand new Magellan 350 for a little more than a used Genz head, something like the Shuttle 9.2 or Streamliner. With those I’d get more power and tubes, but with the Magellan I’d get brand new Genzler tone, which I think is more what I’m after.

@project_c --- Thanks for considering an upgrade from the Shuttle 3.0 to a Magellan 350. I do feel you would certainly benefit from the increased depth and weight and clarity of the tone and it will feel like it does deliver more power than your 3.0, without going to a much more higher powered amp --- new or used. I think it would be a great fit for your jazz needs in small to mid-size venues.
I believe Bass Direct in the UK would have the MG-350 available.

No smoke or flames. I would usually recommend you place the MG PRE Pedal into the AUX IN of the Kinetix 800, so you would have 2 seperate choices of preamps, BUT you can certainly place the MG PRE Pedal into the front end. You'd have this solid state preamp going into the all tube pre of the Kinetix.
This could offer various, interesting tonal options availalble to the player.
When we were doing some various A/B tests during the final tonal tests and development days with the Kinetix 800, we did this a few times with one of our testers ---- Gregg VanGelder. He liked this option a lot.
No concerns about giving that a try.

I got home earlier then planned and spent a few hours with the kinetix. The short answer is, for my needs, I prefer my workhorse Magellan 800. The kinetix definitely sounds bigger, fuller, thicker in the lows. It is smoother and really does have a mildly compressed feel. I just really like the Magellans eq and wish it had a 2nd semi-parametric mid. The Kinetix is a great amp, but I prefer the Magellan and that says a lot for Genzlers products. They aren’t easily replaced by the next thing.

And this is why we offer 2 different designs in our bass amps. There's nothing wrong with finding that specific GENZLER amp the speaks to you, best.
It would be a much simplier world if we could all agree that one amp covers it for everyone.
But one can dream......

I now have the Magellan 800, BA2 210 and BA2 115 and it is absolutely my dream rig. It sounds so damn good! I was gassed for a Kinetix, but when I played this rig live, I wondered why I would ever need anything else.

Kinetix Tube Swap.
Just for the H@ll of it I replaced all (3) JJ ECC83S tubes in my Kinetix last night with Tungsol's.

The results were surprisingly noticeable. I didn't think there would be such a huge difference but the Tungsol's definitely added a bunch of warmth and "meat" to the Kinetix. Additionally, the amount of breakup using the "Gain" knob increased at a much lower setting.

@BaltBass5 --- You bring up an interesting aspect of the new KINETIX 800.
Yes, there are many tonal variations possible with this design if one cares to swap tubes. Another option for some who may wish an even cleaner tonal path with the KINETIX is to use a 12AU7 in V1, and 12AT7 in V2.
Some players may which to try this out. Our choice for loading the amp with 3 of the ECC83S tubes is that this set the amp with the most flexibilty of gain and tonal structure, along with reliable audio and mechanical needs.

You weren't wrong, it sounds awesome!! I decided to go for it, it showed up a little earlier today. I'm just testing it at living room volume, it will be doing its' first gig with me next Friday night, can't wait.

I'm curious, why would you want this? Why not just turn down the master volume? I can understand an intentional mismatch for certain tube amps so you can drive the output stage harder and get a bit more drive for the amount of volume (and apparently Jerry Garcia did this with his McIntosh MC2300, which, despite being a solid state amp, has a tube style output with an output transformer).
