Well I get it, I bought my 800 and my second 12-3 at my local store. I did get my first 12-3 here though at a bit of a discount. I just like to see people who might not normally be able to buy great gear get a shot at it now and again. I also don't really need a 210-3 but at that price I might be able to find room for it. All I'm saying...
And yes I currently work in retail in Hi-Fi so I get it. The only advantage retailers have is being able to demo the product before you buy it, and service side...but sometimes you need to make room for other product so discounts happen.

Sooooo....I used my MG800 as a preamp again for a regular IEM gig doing 70's pop/disco covers.

I have to say the the Drive channel is excellent. Hits that fine line between tube-ish compression and being able to play with dynamics and expression. It's my fav low-gain OD to date!

To my mediocre ears it sounds a lot like a Tone Hammer DI, BUT without the upper mid nasallyness that is inherent in the THDI.

I also LOVE the B Contour. Right around 9:00-9:30 is the sweet spot for both channels.

Here's a pic from the gig with my settings:

It's nice that you need so little EQ adjustment to get the tone you're looking to achieve.
I think your use of the DRIVE channel and CONTOUR curves is exactly what we were hoping to achieve.
These type of pics really help us to know how players use our products in the wild.

I think your ears are hearing great.. Your ears are just as good as anyone else's..
The TOne Hammer DI is not even close to the greatness of the Genz Benz/ Genz DI. So you're Spot on. TO me all the aguilar stuff seems nasally and dark just not what i would expect from a DI.. But then many people are OK with it.. For me,, Its the Genzler DI or my REDDI... nothing else comes close

The small amount of EQ is due to having two great EBes that I don't need to mess with too much. It alllll starts with the instrument!

Actually, I DO like the THDI quite a bit. :bag: I wasn't trying to knock it. I just like the Genzler more betterer. I really like the THDI set with the Gain pretty darn low. Around 7:30-ish. But I could never get rid of that upper midrange/nasal thing. Plus mine was hissy. Fine for most of the live stuff that I do but I can't imagine that hiss would go over in a studio.

The Genzler has a certain....Sparkle? Presence?...to it that the THDI lacks. Not really "highs". Just a certain sumpin' sumpin' that makes me warm and fuzzy all over.

Ive been looking for a OD.. I had teh TH pedal.. But i liked the darkglass more for my needs.
Just Got the Ampeg SCRDI which is pretty cool.. Great for IEM mix if i dont want straight DO sound in my ears.
But I'm still looking for the perfect OD pedal.. Not there yet.. .Sans Amp has a NEW V2.0 BBDI that i am wanting to try out soon

Had a house full of guest all week and with a new song to learn was not able to play with volume, remembering all this talk about silent practice with headphones got me to finally try it. So off to the workbench in the garage with the laptop, Magellan, headphones and bass.
Laptop to Aux in, headphones in. Wow! This works great. :thumbsup:

Yeah, I'd say lower and flatter, too. More pristine. More refined. VERY quiet.

Just as a reference, I like the MG800 Drive channel over the following I've tried: THDI, BDDI v1, PDDI, VTDI, VT Deluxe, VT v2 pedal, Azure Drive v1, Agro, Barbershop.....Might be a few more in there. Never tried the SCRDI or the v2 BDDI or any Darkglass stuff. Too much gear and too little time/money.

If you would be so kind please keep us updated on your search. Inquiring minds...

Anyone using MG800 with a BA12-3 and BA210-3? I had a "fun" party rehearsal and brought my brand spanking new MG800 and BA12-3 with my current 4X10 cab - Eden 410XLT. The tone was amazing. Then I unplugged the 410 and played the rest of the night out of the BA12-3. So first impression was wow. But my GAS has me seriously considering mixing the 12 with the 210. Nice, light modular, and loud if required.
