Genzler Amplification Club

Need NU Classic speaker guidance. I own two Magellan heads (350 & 800). I’ve been playing both through my 2 Bergantino HD112s. In the basement by myself they sound great. In a live band mix, I’m not digging the sound completely. It seems too deep low frequency centric, not cutting through with thick low mids & mids.

So I’m considering a nu classic 115 or a nu classic 212.

My whole life I’ve had better experiences with different brands of 115s, versus 212s. However, I wanna come into this with an open mind of what’s best… what you Genzler experts recommend.

I’m a P bass player, flat wounds all the time, finger style, low tone / no tone on da bass, EMG GZR pickups. I use some pedals for light overdrive but that’s it. I like to have old school 60s and early 70s bass tone.

The last thing is I play both indoor and outdoor gigs, most are small set ups (outdoor with mid quality PA). So I would love to figure out what would work for both indoor and outdoor.

NC-212 ?
Single
NC-115 ? (would that get me through outdoor gigs) ?
Two NC-115s ? (I bet this would be great, but it would also be the most expensive) ?

I have no restrictions on size or weight… for me the #1 thing is that old school tone… p bass low tone/no tone chunky flatwound joy.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.
If you can't make a pair of Berg HD112's sound awesome with the EQ's of either of those amps, then I'm not sure what to say, but "WOW?".

The clips I've heard of the NC-212T sound like they would have more lower midrange-mid bass thickness than the HD's.

Confused by why you're hearing - maybe open up the tone control on the P Bass a bit more.

Try everything before giving up on those HD112's...Holy Moly!

I had almost the exact same question on the last page and was guided to the NC212T. It is being delivered tomorrow

I play p bass with the Magellan 350 and 10” bass array. Have you set contour on b and boost to 12 o’clock or even 1? That for me really cuts through.

For a silky smooth tone I set the contour A to 11’oclpck and cut the treble to 10 o’clock. Was just playing with the misses who plays piano and my gosh the tone was hypnotising. So smooth.

Also try opening up the tone knob alittle. Berg cabs are legendary. I love the tone. Oh I hand the genzler 4 on the floor as a alway on gear one tone sweetener. 😍

Im always in favor of going with an NC212 and Magellan 800.

I know everyone loves the BA cabs, but they are all so low to the ground for me. I know it’s kind of dumb, but I like a more vertical cab so my head is up higher and I’m not listening with my ankles. 🤷‍♀️
I think that is my biggest beef with the BA115. It's one of the best 115's I've had, but on a small bar stage, I can't hear it. Sounds killer out in the audience though

What brand would you suggest?
My AmpWedge isn't sold anymore. But a piece of plastic or wood will do the same trick for free. The front of the cab needs a one to three inch elevation depending on how steep an angle you need. I can stand in front of this facing away from the cab and hear it clearly.

Get an amp stand that lifts it a little and tilts it back. I have a couple different ones and, for me, they fix that issue.
That or a solid box type platform of some kind does the trick. I used one when I played a 1x15 combo and I would again if I played a single 12" or 15". A floor type tilt back stand will work as well. I use one with my 1x12 guitar amp and with another I use high rise amp stands like this one.

You can even see the 1x15 bass combo on a tilt back floor stand next to it.

I have one of those and use it under my stack of two 10" BA cabs which also sit on a Gramma Pad.

NC212T is here! It is darker than I expected, but I think that is going to be a really good fit with my country band. I actually like the tweeter on this one too! Usually I have those off, but I have it around 25% and it adds a nice sheen on top. I have a gig a week for today, so will be a great test for it.

Now I got my big rig, and bigger rig

What does the mat help with? Absorbing the sun bass we feel and not hear?
It's an isolation pad. In my case living in multi-tenant buildings it helps keep the low frequencies from penetrating through the floor to those below. Live it isolates it from the stage (especially hollow stages) and eliminates stage rumble. I feel the sound is more focused as well.
