Genzler Amplification Club

The Kinetix made it in. I had a few minutes to tinker and it sounded fabulous. Messed with the gain structure to get some breakup and love the 3 way character switch. I’ll give it a proper break-in at the gig tomorrow night. Looking forward to it.

The Kinetix sounded great on the gig....I used the lean setting with the EQ flat. Had both the volume and gain at about noon and ran the master a little past 9 o clock. I could definitely feel the ebb and flow with the tube preamp depending on how hard I dug in etc. There was also a nice 'sparkle' on the top end that I really enjoyed for some of the songs that call for the slappin & poppin. I'm pretty sure for the country band I'll use the fat setting and let it rip from there. A great first outing!!

Cripple Creek - Chamonix Casino
Ah well, even if I'd known that ahead of time it would've been quite a drive from Ft Collins down to Cripple Creek. Last time I was there we played one of the Casinos but that was a very long time ago.

If you ever get booked in Central City or Blackhawk or up in Cheyenne let us know. That's a doable drive from here. I'd enjoy hearing the band and getting to meet you.

I’m going to be staying in Cripple Creek and surrounding areas for 3 weeks in September. Getting married, Colorado is open officiant so we are doing it ourselves remote. Would love some suggestions for must eats and do’s if you wouldn’t mind DM’ing me. We are foodies and possess a love for coffee. Any venues to check into for shows while we are out there would be awesome too. Been doing lots of research and there the abundance of things to do and places to see around Colorado Springs and Denver seem nearly endless. I’ve spent time in Colorado in my younger years but it was never exploratory. Happy Sunday.

We played at one of our more challenging venues, sound-wise, yesterday. It is a covered outdoor area, but where the band sets up has very low ceilings and because we have to avoid a door/passageway on one side of the "stage" area, we are crammed in a corner. I would have preferred to push out mains out further, but we has some torrential rains and high winds come through (which delayed the show a bit), so I had to keep them back in the "boomy" area. I was able to dial back the subs a bit and as it turns out, the sound coming out of the mains was actually quite good (lots of compliments, even!). However, hearing yourself on stage is always a challenge in this venue. Definitely makes the case for in-ears, but I haven't convinced the band to fully commit yet.

Knowing I wanted a smaller, more controlled rig, I brought my new (to me) Trickfish TF208V and TF112M - which I am LOVING! - and the new Genzler MG-800+. This head sounds fantastic and is very powerful - but straightforward - in terms of tone-shaping. The variable HPF was great to deal with the extremely bass-heavy and boomy corner where I had to place my rig, and the two bands of semi-parametric mids helped me dial-out some congestion and dial-in some clarity. Love this tone stack! Also, I have found myself really loving the Drive function on the MG-800+. I usually use one overdrive pedal for songs where I want a bit more grit/grind, but I don't want a super obvious overdrive, and the Drive circuit on the MG-800+ handled those duties extremely well.

This was my first time using this particular rig live, and I was very happy with the results. The Trickfish cabs and Genzler head work very well together, and each contributed to allowing me (and my drummer) to hear myself in a very challenging space. After the storms rolled through (in truth, even before they were done) we had a great crowd, and a good time was had by all!

Have been shirking responsibilities for a while (work, whatcha gonna do?!) so I’m doing a quick Genzler group drive-by to remind everyone that it’s always good to have options.

The I just liked this photo rig.

So get what you can. Play what you love. And keep working those gigs with Genzler kit as it will never let you down or leave you hanging.

Now back to work!
