Genzler Amplification Club

Here’s my new gigging rig. Two 10-2 bass array cabs. I have a series 1 and series 2. Took them out at a small gig the other night and loved the definition and thick tone from such a mini rig. Started off very low volume, master at 1 1/2 and the drive channel with gain at 9 and volume around 11. Turned it up slightly throughout the evening and was delighted.

This was my rig but with Genz Benz Shuttle and 10’s. I replaced it with a Magellan 350/12T-V combo. I wanted a single cab solution. This was before the ULV-210T came out. Although I do like the 12 and that the cab has the bracket mount for my MG350.

If I were upgrading from the Genz Benz today I would probably purchased the ULV-210T and the Kinetix head.

Yep... options are great.

My rig options (currently):
1. MG800 w/ NC212
2. MG350 w/ MG 12TV
3. Pedal board with 4OTF & Magellan Preamp/DI (and various other effects)

I use the pedal board on it's own if it's a quick load-in/out (like a festival with multiple bands). Or if I'm old & lazy.
I use the MG350 w/ MG 12TV when it's a smaller location &/or I'm old & lazy.
The MG800 w/ NC212 for bigger stages and I want to feel my pants flop (and not feeling and old & lazy as I usually do).
At church just a multi-effects pedal direct to the board.

The effects board is usually only used with my main band. If it's a pickup gig then usually bass straight into either amp (depending on my lazy-level).

I never have gigs that require more than my MG350/12TV combo. Can’t beat it for ease and sound. And with how well they are made, this will probably never wear out or crap out to give me an excuse to by something new. 🤪

I am debating taking the MISO off my board (GLXD/Stomp/MISO) and going to the Magellan Preamp/DI and using the Stomp only as a Compressor and for the 3 effects I rarely use. I’ve thought of getting rid of the Stomp all together, but to buy a Compressor, Pitch Shift, Chorus and Drive would be twice as much as my Stomp and the Stomp is paid for.

I currently have the MG800+, the MG350, and two ULV-112T's. I have been thinking seriously about adding a ULV-210T as an occasional single cab solution. As others have said, there's something for everyone in the Genzler line.

Hey brains trust - I’m after a few real world opinions, hopefully from the more rock/metal pick wielding crowd as that’s what I play.

My last band spent 3.5 years getting compliments on my bass tone with a MG800 and Kinetix through 2x112 mG12TV cabs. Tonal bliss.

Anyway, I’m an idiot and sold the cabs in a fit of madness. Can’t get them here in AUS again so am looking at the NC cabs. I’ve spoke to Jeff but just getting some last minute opinions. I think I want another 2x112 for the super easy set up etc and tone. I never need a huge rig, always have a PA except at rehearsal.

My dilemma is I’m super keen on the 210 as well. Jeff has suggested I go for a 210+112 which I think I will do - unless someone out there has the 2x112 and loves it more for some reason ?

Otherwise ignore this post and I’ll shut up and buy the 210/112 haha.

Cheers!

I can see situations where 2x 112s would be sensible but the NC 212 is just so lightweight and has such a tiny footprint that that's the route I took.

I know myself well enough to know that it's really unlikely I would've ever thought "Ya know what?...I probably can get by with just 112 tonight."

NO WAY! I am always happy to have the 212 with me. I want the ability to turn on the DOD Meatbox and make my pants flap.

Why not a pair of the new Magellan ULV-112T or one ULV-112T + a ULV-210T?

I prefer the tone of the 12"s myself.

The ULV-212 weighs about 36 lbs. That's less than many typical 112s. Tipped the scale for me as TWO drivers almost always sound better than one.

Thanks all yes good points regarding 2 drivers and I agree, makes sense to get the 212 but I am happy to make multiple trips/car space etc for 2 modular cabs (even though its silly as they cost more haha).

I would totally go the ULV and I still might, it just means waiting 2-3 months and paying more! Such is life when you live at the ends of the earth (Tasmania).

Cheers all.

So glad you have a sense of humor - these days you never know!

The biggest problem (if you cannot afford to buy one or more of each) is deciding which Genzler amp and cab will work best for your tastes and situation!
Yeah I know! I'm 100% using the kinetix. I used it with someones elses rumble 210 cab the other gig and it was not bad.

My real issue is do I go for 10 or 12s to be honest. I had 12s and now I want 10s but I don't fully know why haha.

My new Genzler rig performed admirably at a large outdoor venue a couple weeks ago. I used the MG350 and a pair of ULV112-T cabinets. It's really astonishing what this rig can do. We will be playing at this venue a couple time in July and I'll get better pictures. For those dates, even though the MG350 handled the gig easily, I think I'll try my new MG800+, just because I can. :)
