First gig with my ULV 212T. Impressive! If Genzler was going for the super lightweight GRBass carbon fiber market this line should take it over. Sounds better than my GRbass AT 212 cab, which is already falling apart. If you want a lightweight cab with plenty of punch, this is now the undisputed winner. Kudos Genzler!View attachment 7530488

I was jonesin' for some of the GR Bass cabs (esp. Active), but I think I've lost that loving feeling after hearing several less than enthusiastic reviews.

Not a great picture, but here's my rig from last weekend at a large BBQ restaurant. I used the MG800+ for the first time into my two ULV112-T cabinets. The MG800+ is a force of nature! We were on a wooden stage, so I bumped up the HPF to about 9 o'clock and it tamed the boom. I'm amazed how full and clear the sound is coming out of this lightweight rig. The vertical orientation and small footprint are a big plus for those small stages we play on.

I have two outside gigs this coming weekend. Hopefully the weather cooperates and I can use the MG800+ outside for the first time.

I've been fortunate to have owned some great gear without ever going into debt (not that I wasn't sorely tempted).
I've had to downsize for health and practicality reasons, but I still have a rig that plays and sounds awesome (maybe just not as awesome as some, but I'm not gigging presently, so practicality still prevails).
I don't fault anyone who buys on credit, I consider myself the judge of no one.

Just weighing in (again) to say I'm loving my Magellan preamp more and more, sounds perfect in a current guitar/bass duo playing jazz standards, passive jazz bass>magellan pre>gk mbp112 powered cab.

HPF is magic, mid selector is precise, lovely highs, deep rich lows.

It gets betterer and betterer.

I haven't tried the Kinetix yet (but boy am I tempted), however I recently picked up the MG800+. This amp is very punchy and has a strong low end without sounding boomy or bloated. I think it's the best sounding amp for my ears that I've ever played. There might not be many folks that have heard both amps, but if so, I'd be interested to hear a comparison as well.

I've owned both (not at the same time). The way I would say it is the Magellan is a good pop in the chest, whereas the Kinetix is more of a kick in the gut. That totally makes sense, right?

I have a Magellan 800 and a Kinetix 800. I agree with the Kinetix/"kick in the gut" comment. But it's not a muddy kick--the notes and tone are quite clear and meaty.

I prefer the clean Magellan with my hollow body bass. It's well suited to bringing out the airy feel and overtones of an acoustic instrument and reminds me of a beefier, bigger presence version of the uber clean Genz Benz 3.0. The Magellan also shines when you want the bass to "stand out" more in a mix. Even in a trio, the Magellan is good for giving the bass a clear, distinct presence. I also prefer using the Magellan with an HPF.

I would call my MG 800 a 'punchy' amp but has the benefit of the different contours and sweepable mids to give it plenty of tonal options. The Kinetix has that full sound going on with the tubes in the preamp and just has a slightly different texture to it to my ears. The 'contour' switch is a great feature which I've been using in the 'lean' setting for my R&B band and the 'fat' setting works great for my country band. I'd say the 'punch in the chest' vs the 'kick in the gut' terminology sums these amps up well. I had a fun Thurs/Fri/Sat with the Kinetix!

@otto B --- thanks for the question. I was chatting with Nate Navarro over the weekend and posted your question to him. He's got a unique perspective as he uses both amps for all of his demo videos. Here are his thoughts, if this might be useful to the conversation:

"The Kinetix lacks no punch, and brings a unique responsiveness and tube flavor to tone, but... the more transparent voice of the Magellan 800+, and its ability to follow a wider scope of transients verbatim, makes it take the win for ultimate punch in my book.
I notice the Kinetix has a thicker presence by default, even when running FAT and LEAN, due to the greater presence of low mid harmonic content coming from the tubes. I love using this for unison bass/rhythm guitar parts; it helps create a singular-sounding, thick wall-of-guitars vibe. The lows of the Magellan 800+ are more focused and shapeable in my comparison. I often use CURVE A around 1 o'clock, and this gives me the depth and clarity that I like for a lot of my demo work, where I want to hear the character of the bass clearly, while still filling out the low end of the mix. The pure sub and low frequencies of the Magellan 800+ are in a class of their own IMO."

I have similar opinions but I felt that Nate's perspective/description was best.

Good question, I was wondering the very same thing thinking that I could save a little money going the 210 route, but in the end went with 2 separate 10" cabs because of how light and easy they are to move around with the handy back handle plus I think it just looks cooler with the little stack vs one cab and gets the speaker up higher closer to your ears. More importantly though, I would think the array effect would be more pronounced but Jeff would be the one to give the definitive answer on this.

@Moonskunk ---- regarding your questions, comparing two of the BA10-2-S2 cabs...
