Genzler Amplification ! New Genz Benz ?

Great read. Thanks for the link. I play mostly 80's, 90's, & early 2000's hard rock right now and use a Genz Benz NeoX 212T as my go to cab. Wondering if the Magellan 212 would be more of a lateral move perhaps?

It's a longish thread with plenty of input from other parties - we did a mini-shoot-out as well with a couple of 212s and a Glockenklang 112 which was most interesting. There's also an attempt at describing actual gig/stage experience.
Had a (somewhat too loud) rehearsal last night, and playing the setup in the above pic kept up with more than enough SPL in reserve, and all while giving this amazingly defined and round bottom end.

Happy to answer any questions.

As I said above, I'm sure that the amp and the cabs were designed to work together really well so I'd think that my experience to date (which I would call more than convincing) wold be even better with the M800.

So whose pre-ordered a Magellan 800? I'm waffling. I quit my primary band at the end of December and decided to take a few months off so I don't need it... but ya' know..... I wants it!

I had been leaning towards looking for a used Epifani 501 till I saw the Magellan. Had a chance to (very) briefly try the new Berg and it's super cool but not really wanting to go there financially.

The thing I like about the Magellan is the 2.67 ohms thing and the fact that it is not as tweakable as the 9.2. The 9.2 is a great head and if you have a passive bass it is even better because it really opens up tonal options that are beyond what that passive bass can deliver.. Most of my basses are active and all of them have some form of variable mids.. so for me the 9.2 as great as it is was just overkill.. but it is a great head. I like the 900 because it is simpler and the Magellan seems to have some od the versatility of the Max without the complexity (not that the Max was hard to figure out.. ) .

My favorite part of the Magellan, and the part I spent the most time with was the Contour function. For lack of a better term, it's very "musical".
I'm a very "close my eyes and turn the knobs until it sounds good kind of guy". I've got a little knowledge of the, "I need 2 more db in the 'xxx' range," but not alot. The Magellan worked very well for me. It was very easy to dial in adjustments. That's a huge plus for me.
Little Background: many of the gigs I do have a backline. The club's policy is usually, "This is what you're using." They don't want to worry about switching direct outs or re-micing. They want you up, on, and out. Sometimes, there are certain basses I won't bring because they don't play nice with some amps (for lack of a better term). The Magellan took everything I could throw at it and was simply wonderful.
I know I'm gushing, but it was really impressive.
I've got a ShuttleMax 6.0 which I adore, but the Magellan might beat it out. Granted, I don't use the Signal Shape options very often, so take that with a grain of salt.
If you're a Streamliner user, I'm not sure how it compares. I thought the Drive channel was very nice. When I used it, I usually just wanted a little fuzziness and warmth. It's not replacing my Ampeg in that regard, but unless I specifically need that running through multiple tubes, serious overdrive sound, the Magellan will do just fine.

Thanks! I'm all about Contour B. I told Jeff I think that is THE feature on this amp. For the way I typically play and the basses I typically choose, that's much more useful to me than a contour that further cuts mids and boosts my usually already boosted lows and highs.

I think you are right.. Who knows.. I may wind up selling my 900 along the way but I really like it.. I liked it better than the Max.. but I am definitely getting one of these.. I am one of those folks who firmly believes in having at least two of the essentials... bass, amp, cab..

Great video... I was psyched about this amp from the specs alone... but now that I have seen this video it is a done deal.

The Contour control is the bomb! I did some more A/B of the A/B (see what I did there?) and the range of tones is nothing short of staggering. For gigs where the manager has that "Hurry up and play" attitude, I can see myself using this to dial in a good sound really quickly.
Demo videos that show the range of this function will be available in due course.

Side note: I got a peek at the carry bag for the Magellan 800. Very nice. It compares very favorably with other soft case options. Personally, I use a GigSkinz for my ShuttleMax. There is no drop in quality between the two. Nice strap. Metal connections. Very solid and smooth zippers.
