Genzler Magellan Pre... looks tasty

Initial plugin and test report -

9v power supply, bass directly in, headphones out to my UltimateEars 11 Pro's. Music to play along to inserted in Aux.

Impressions: STUNNED. What in crazy bass voodoo magic did you guys shove into this thing?! I have never heard a more fat direct tone in all of my testing of preamps with IEM's. Seriously! Both contours are absolutely superb! And to be clear again, I bought it specifically for them. I favor a heavy dose of curve B for my use, but curve A is crazy good for a quick changeover to a more modern tone and you can make it as mild or wild as you'd like.

Now, I haven't tried it yet with the rest of my pedal board that will utilize the direct out to my headphone amp, but if it's the same or even a remotely similar tone that I'm hearing as with the headphone out, then this thing is a massive winner. I've been running my Starlifter almost flat and no contour shaping with the YYZ pedal in front of it as a pseudo cab sim with very, very, mild OD (not the Geddy tone by any means). The Magellan Pre copies it in a much more clean and adjustable fashion while still making that fat tone I like. Not that I'll be getting rid of the YYZ pedal ever, but it may have just removed it from the equation. Bravo!!

Buy first, sell later. When it's something as critical as the preamp, which is the brain in my setup, I wouldn't want to be without what I know currently works in case the new one doesn't work out. It's happened several times so far and if you can swing it that's what I would do.

Ok guys you almost got me, I went to check the in the shop and what? Not available yet in EU :(

Not on Thomann, BassBuddha. I have only seen it on www.bassdirect.co.uk but its not that convenient for EU shipping.

Patience is a virtue so I'm not complaining, especially in post-Covid world.

Its really great to finally get "my sound" from a preamp that works just as well with a power amp as it does an effects return. I can list maybe two other preamps I've owned in my life that I felt this way about. But none were as flexible as this. Pardon my repetitive post as I blather on and on about it. Excellent work thanks Andy and Jeff for what you guys do.

I didn't think about plugging my IEMs into the pedal and mixing with a feed from the monitor mix. Wow. This keeps getting better. :)

Please reach out to Thomann and ask about it. They stock some of our other products and can get this new pedal easily. Just need to get them started sometimes with a little help.

I received mine a week or so ago. The 1st thing I did was plug it into a Crown XLS1002 and it sounded great. It drove the Crown and was crisp, clean and had oodles more headroom than my Ampeg SVP (they sound great but have notoriously low output). Interestingly enough, I plugged it into the return on my MG800 and with a few knob twiddles I replicated my clean channel sound. No big surprise there but I had to hear for myself. Nice clean, transparent sound. It checks all the boxes that my Magellan 800 does except one. :)
Kudos to the team at Genzler.
Ps: I’d be all over a rack mounted version…

Did you use a TRS-TRS cable? This maintains balanced signal operation from the pedal's balanced output through to the amp's balanced input.

Gave the Genzler Magellan Pre-amp a quick spin. Set the Cioks to 18V. It was late so I couldn't really crank it. I used my MIJ Geddy Lee Jazz & Charvel P/J IV. The Contour A/B switch I went in thinking I'd like B more than A. But I loved the thickness of A. Honestly still haven't figured it out completely.
For those worried about the input & outputs of the pedal being reversed to what most are use to it wasn't an issue at all. But the preamp is the final pedal on my board. I set my Genz-Benz Contour 500 2x10 combo to flat even the contour knob was set to 12 0'clock. (I'll need to play around with that setting more.)

Can't wait to try out my EBMMSRS tonight to test drive humbuckers through the pedal. So far I'm very pleased with the pedal.

I got lucky I was all set to buy the smaller version but found this on the verb. It was used in pristine condition and was actually cheaper than what the smaller version was selling for used. I Snatched it up and its a keeper its a brighter Drive than the MojoMojo. But retains the lows and has plenty of umph. The boost is fantastic. I'm new to pedals so not sure how it stands up to other overdrives but for my 1st complex dirt pedal I like it and would recommend it. At some point I'll have to try out the 4 on the floor.

The contour knob on the Contour 500 is closed to flat fully CCW.
