Genzler - new amp for Jan 2016

Playing the MG800 through the SVT810 tonight...It certainly cut well and has a thickness to the sound.
Different sounding to the usual LMIII I use with that cab.
I was happy with the sound...but not used to the difference...as I am used to the clarity of Markbass,if that is the right word?
The MG was more midrange thicker....certainly a rich tone
I will see how it plays with my Epi UL410 on Fridays gig

I think that describes my experience with the sound perfectly. "Midrange Thicker" and rich for sure. I'm getting used to it myself.

Imagine if you will, carrying 68# the weight of 2 Genzler Bass Array cabs, vs 128# of the SVT 810...and still getting that same gut ripping punch that your used to but with one big difference, the whole stage can hear you clearly as well as the parking lot. Or put 3 BA cabs together for pure bliss, gut wrench punch/power and clarity all at the same time and only @102#. I used to own and gig with a SVT 810. Now with 2/3 BA cabs I have more options.

57# is not bad especially for a 410 cab.

Got a super funky razor sharp and fat tone today through my Yorkville 112 cabs...no tweeter.
Channel A...even flat added a certain quality to the tone
Boosted bass and treble.....Funky slappin the groove jazz bass heaven

I definitely like the Magellan, but I like the Puma and D-800, too. They each bring unique things to the table. To my ears, the Magellan is the most cutting and articulate, the Puma 900 would be the most smooth, and the D-800 would be the most warm/round, but each of those heads can do a lot more, and they are each very versatile. They all have different means of tweaking their tone/character, which is cool. I think that personal preferences will dictate which amp is best for which player. They are all highly competent, for sure.

Tom- would you think that either the Magellan or D-800 would match up better with a pair of Baer ML-112's? Both probably nice, but any thoughts?

Magellan 800 and Baer ML-112... It' s a great combination! I'd love to hear a direct comparison to the Genzler array too.

I have the same setup: Genzler MG800 & 2 Baer ML112v2. I could NOT be any more please with the volume, tone, control, and versatility.

I have relegated the GK MBF800 to backup role. It's like having an AllStar riding the pine, because it is a very good amp, but the MG800 is better (for me right now, and I cannot imagine that changing anytime soon).

Magellan 800 and Baer ML-112... It' s a great combination! I'd love to hear a direct comparison to the Genzler array too.

Yes, I've heard that G/BAER combinations sound great from a few sources. Roger Baer makes great gear. Nice lookin as well.

I have not done an A/B of the D-800 and the Magellan 800 using the ML-112's yet, but I will try and make that happen! My initial thoughts are that the D-800 and the ML-112's might have a nice yin yang thing going on, and while the Magellan likely plays to the Baers' strong suit, it might be too much of a good thing - but of course you have the tone controls and Contour options, which should work well with the ML-112's.
