I don't know what it is about "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" (Genesis), but it is a complete earwig for me. I suspect that it slips past the filter of my consciousness and speaks directly to my musical DNA. Anyone else have an album that has a similar effect? Let me know that I'm not alone... ;)
Well, I loved that record when I was younger, so I can relate. Parts of it still pop into my head at random times. But there is usually no rhyme or reason to what is in my head at any given moment beyond being either something I have heard recently, something that someone mentioned, or something that something else reminded me of.

ELP - Tarkus

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

If you haven't had the chance to see Carl Palmer's ELP legacy tour, do it.

I have and it was jaw-droppingly good. I even got this signed at the show. A guy I went to high school with is his management here in the states.

Happy Friday GOF's. Please report in that you're fairly human and most or all appendages accounted for. Fall weather is arriving not a moment too soon. We were fortunate this summer to get so much halibut and sockeye from friends. We had half the sockeye smoked and it's delicious.

Tonight we had halibut for dinner. It was delicious. Simple recipe. Rub down your halibut with extra virgin olive oil. Place in a large piece of aluminum foil. Fold over and completely seal. Cook at 350 for 18 minutes. A lot of people add a coating but we love it very simple with a bit of fresh basil and tartar sauce.

So what say ye, GOF's? What do you have planned for this weekend?

I have a lot of work scheduled this weekend. Also going to a retirement party for one of my clients. Don't usually mix social life and work life, but with these people I made an exception, as it was pretty clear from the start that they were part of my tribe. They've been to a couple of our jams here, and we had a rip-roaringly drunken good time at their place for dinner a few weeks back. Should be a good bit of fun.

Other than this, I have nothing. No gigs on the books until next weekend, when I am playing a farmer's market gig in a band I'm probably going to quit soon.

I lived in Seattle most of the 70's-- going to school or working. I was lucky enough to see most contemporary bands for pretty cheap. I saw most of the shows at the Paramount and the Eagles auditorium. Great venues.

I loved seeing ELP at the Paramount. I agree their Tarkus album was a milestone. So was Boz Scaggs Down to then Left. Earth Wind and Fire-- All 'n All. There was so much good music that came out of the 70's and 80's.

If you haven't had the chance to see Carl Palmer's ELP legacy tour, do it. I was pretty skeptical of what they could pull off with the instrumentation they had, but man, what a show. I never got to see the real thing, but this was a pretty good treat.
I don't know if it was that, but I saw the CP Band in the mid '00s, with Stuart Clayton (a a writer/columnist for BGM - a UK magazine) on bass. Most of the show was ELP material. :bassist:

Sad, Sad, Happy, Happy.

Rosary for a family member tonight.

Funeral for a childhood friend of Mrs. Stumbo tomorrow morning.

Then meeting a friends group for lunch. Seems we've been meeting about once a month since our friend's mother, who was the center of a lot of socializing passed on several months ago. We chat it up for a couple of hours. Friends of many years.

Sunday, my nephew is hosting a birthday for his 5 y.o. son. Supposed to be close to 100°. My granddaughter is going to party with her cousins. I may stay home. I'm not good in the heat.

There you go. Elders pass on, noobies move in.

Enjoy it while you can!

Currently, I am listening to some old Rare Blend footage recordings. This one was from a drum festival (imagine the noive!) we did in the mid '00s. I think this was a board "tape". Lots of people at this festival that was put on by a drummer who played in Poco for some time.

Put this in your head - 20,000 drummers and percussionists in the audience! :smug:

This is with the '67 Rick 4005WB and old Chromes.

Here's a couple from a gig at the Open Air Market, across the street from the historic West Side Market on the near westside of Cleveburg, in 2008. This was with my old '97 California Precision Special that I did considerable mods to (only the neck, body, pickguard, and wiring harness were stock).

Photos below from the gig.

I find that foil wrap is the best way to cook fish. I add a little organic (it tastes stronger) lemon juice before sealing it. A bonus of the foil is that the fish doesn’t smell up the kitchen like when frying.

For those that like honey....I was reading that bees take a plane to Alaska. Every year, apparently around 24,000 pounds of bees are flown to Alaska to replace ones that don’t winter well. Oregon’s loss is Alaska’s gain.

Plan on a looong walk to a market for berries, apples and cauliflower and other veg. Another excursion to a bakery tomorrow. Supposed to rain today, this time we’ll have an umbrella. There’s some sort of bicycle event this weekend, the streets are closed so we can’t take the car out.

Otherwise, making custom length XLR cables and finishing up a preamp. Playing tonight.

And listening to Rare Blend and thinking about albums that really spoke to my DNA. Oh yeah checking in on Saturday for Friday. Aside from a new diagnosis of arthritis Friday as I visited with the podiatrist, all bits functioning more or less as expected.

It rains today, and no particular need to go to the growers' market right now.

Abraxas by Santana circa 68, a whole lot of wonderment there in front of my "stereo". Parents worried when I discovered John Lee Hooker, courtesy of Canned Heat. Learned of them from my triple! Woodstock album. By 72 that magic album was Below the Salt by Steeleye span. But I was also listening to a lot of jazz and classical then, Sonny Rollins in particular for the jazz end. And opera.

If I had to put my finger on life-altering albums I'd say Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks and Live from the Mars Hotel.

Very nice bass tone on both tracks. I find that a bass doesn't seem to be your own till it's modded in some way.
