That's painful.

There's SumGai who is part of our conference calls who took all his diction lessons from William Shatner. All the randomly emphasized words, the pauses when there is no comma, &c &c. I actually tune out completely when he speaks. Like take off the headset tune out. When we're on videoconference I just flip off my camera :) (goes without saying SumGai likely tunes me out too.)

.... SumGai is famous in collector's circles. See a [bass] at the shop, come back the next day with cash in hand and hear SumGai came in yesterday and bought it. SumGai is everywhere.

Speaking of hearing, back when we all so thrilled with electric iceboxes, indoor plumbing, and even motor coaches, my maternal grandmother and her best friend were a fixture on Christmas Eve. Both as hard-of-hearing as fenceposts, so it's not difficult to imagine the tenor of the table conversation.

As time advanced Christmas Eve dinner for us became a simple oyster chowder. I'd sort-of-planned on salt cod for Christmas Eve dinner but it sold out. I could get some today at the fish monger (probably) but didn't seem that important. Parties have become smaller and smaller. My own plans take me to a pub I enjoy. I still like to get dressed up on Christmas Eve <shrug>
We go simple on Chrimbo Eve too.....Smoked salmon sarnies followed by Stilton and Mince pies....:)....

Going nowhere....
