.... I saw him here about 5 years ago and he didn't have one then that I saw anyway. They were unbelievable.

I've been noticing such teleprompters onstage in videos of lots of different bands for a couple of decades now. When the camera is to the side, or back, of the band some of those low wedges up front have words on them! When you think the singer is closing his eyes and "feeling it" he may be just squinting at the teleprompter! So, is it really rock n' roll, or just high priced karaoke?

Arlo did just fine on "Alice's restaurant" when I last saw him, 53 years after he wrote the song. But then, he was never a Beatle. I didn't notice any teleprompter around.

I just found out he had a couple of strokes and had to retire, he retired very recently. I saw him sometime during the early 90's, interesting show.

I think most of them earned it though. Actually singers is several of the bands I've been in in the past 5 years have used computers (or tablets whatever you call them) onstage for lyrics. I thought it was a little strange when I first started seeing it but got used to it, the singer in the rock band I was in out here even used one.

With most of my colleagues beyond the borders of America the Beautiful, today was simply a workday. Lunch was leftover mapo tofu, dinner was lamb saag, and six hardshell clams are my concession to the holiday in a while

My wife and I (I know I have to use proper English with those from the newspaper trade which is a highly esteemed career I would definitely think about if I had to do it all over again) went to a restaurant today which is where I "lost" my glasses. I don't think they have turkey here so I was going to have a bacon cheeseburger but had Lomo Saltado instead. I listened to Alice's Restaurant and posted it in the 60's thread.

I used to play that song in another lifetime with an acoustic guitar, great tune, fit very well into my lifestyle back then.

We saw Arlo summer '19, and I could see he was struggling with something. He looked very tired for the most part, but was still quite animated when he sang all his Billboard #1 hit songs, and told us some great stories, just like the young Arlo did. A couple were about Robert Zimmerman Bob Dylan and Britknee Speeeeeaaaaars, the latter being an intro to the full "This Land is Your Land", with all the, normally edited out (probably for unpatriotic reasons - imagine that!), verses intact.

When I was play/working 6 nites/week, I had no problem with recalling lyrics. Even these days, there are some I remember just fine and others-that we do(did)every gig that I gotta look at the words. No problem with the music, just lyrics. If we ever get back to working steadily, I'm buying a tablet thing-y. Our group could play almost any relatively reasonable request, but so many songs done instrumentally just don't cut it. Being able to access lyrics with something like "On Song" would be pretty useful. And look better than books. Forget using my flip phone. A), no apps; B), can't see well enuff.

My tablet is semi-borked, in that it's only a tablet now. It's one of those "convertible" jobs with a keyboard "docking station". The keyboard gave up the ghost. I can snag a new docking station on the 'Zon for ~45 clams but not presently in the need of it.

My inbox fills this morning with amazing deals for all manner of temptations. There was one Black Friday deal I could not resist. Indeed, even looking forward to it. First thing today, even before the coffee is made, is purchase Jeff Berlin's Walking Bass lesson package. It runs 25 clams on it's release day (coincidentally, Black Friday). Since I eated eight clams on Thanksgiving that means the balance sheet

is only in my favour if I use the thing.

Looked at lesson 1. It's four bars of walking Maj7 quarter notes (repeat 3x) in every key. No tabs, no fingering suggestions, just plain old written sheet music. People really used to do that!
