Ever make a safety copy of a negative? I'm wondering if it looses resolution.

I've made at least a few hundred! Mostly on 4x5 film, but some were, of necessity, with a Hasselblad 500C, and a very few with Dear Dorff (8x10). There is alway generational losses; it's original only once (sometimes, twice, but not usually ).

The Anheuser Busch Pressman D camera in this photo (made with a Canon 6D, of necessity ) is what I made those negatives with, on a Bencher M3 copy stand utilizing a vacuum easel.

Today sucked.

First, this afternoon my doc called me and based on some recent tests, I need to have a biopsy done on Tuesday. He is looking for cancer.

Then, this evening, my wife got very sick and I had to call 911. The squad came and took her to the local hospital. After some meds and tests, they sent her home. I just got her tucked in for the night a couple of minutes ago.

So much for 2021 being better then 2020.

A friend went to welding school and got a good job in the oil industry working on gas pipelines. That allowed him to save up enough to buy a cattle farm in the country.

Ah, yes...I have a bunch of that film camera equipment in 35mm, 2 1/4 sq, and 4X5 formats that I really don't know what to do with. In my earlier days, I built an awesome darkroom in my folks basement in which I spent endless hours (and money) trying to get control of the black and white medium. I love black and white! ...but not into photo equipment G.A.S. anymore. It is so much easier to accomplish with digital medium. It does lack some of the magic of live silver prints but, in my opinion, looks pretty damn good...and it is nearly instant gratification.
So now what? Throw it all away? There is a ton of what I have on Ebay. Probably have to wait another 20-30 years before there is a resurgence of interest for this stuff.

The organic process of a photograph kind of reminds me of analogue recording. In the end a lot of science, and a bit of magik to put it right.

It seems that a larger format would be better when making copies.

Good morning GOF's. Prayers for those whose ailments or loved one's ailments can use a prayer. It's a mild day in Sitka. Drizzling and 44 degrees. We're working on cleaning out all the junk that's gathered in the house. Seems like an ongoing chore!

I took my pride and joy Ibanez SR1200L VNF to work and missed it at home. I realized I have more time to play it at home and it's my best bass. I've also found that I'm physically capable enough to play a full size 34" and I'm kind of getting over my infatuation with my Ibanez Mikro bass. The Mikro sounds great but the Premium beats it hands down for tone. For some reason I've developed a dislike for such a short neck and even narrower nut width. I'm liking the heft of the Ibanez Premium. But I won't sell the Mikro, it can sit in my cheapo collection. I never buy 'collectibles' or high value basses. Although I made a very good living as a touring musician I've always considered my basses industrial tools of the trade. In 1981 I paid $799 for my Ibanez Roadstar II cherryburst and since then I've only bought one more that was more expensive, that was my latest. Blah blah blah on me. Happy Saturday GOF's!
