Colin Bailey, the great jazz drummer was the drummer for Happy Kyne on Fernwood 2Night and I don't remember where I got his email address but I once wrote to him and asked him how he liked playing on that show and this is what he answered:

Hi Robert,
I had a great time playing on that ultra silly show. At the first rehearsal the producer said, don't make it sound like a Hollywood studio band, play like a band from Fernwood Ohio would play, bad. I got the job because I was always messing around on Studio calls, doing my goat voice etc. and they wanted a nut in the band. None of us were hired for our musical ability. They hired Tedesco because he looked like a thug. The accordion player was hired because they wanted a 'Cordeen in the band. The Bass player got the job because he looked like "A soft sheet" (word changed
). I used to wait for the camera to come by the band, and I would do my Gene Krupa exaggerated head movement stuff. It was the most fun I ever had with my clothes on, as the saying goes. Frank DeVol would write five part harmony for the band to sing. I can't play and sing at the same time for a start. It was awful, and that's what they wanted. We were surprised it was booked for a second season, because of all the hate mail they got from the religious South. "We think this show's disgusting" etc.
It was great fun, and I got calls from some great Drummers to say the would love sub on the show. Shelly Manne, Frankie Capp and some other guys subbed for me.
I hope I've enlightened you with things about the show.
All the Best,
Colin
