Of course there are good professional drivers that work for companies that don't push crazy schedules. There are a lot of cowboys out there though. My comment was directed towards yahoos that drive cars and SUVs. When walking, its common to smell dope from cars. It happened again yesterday. Even worse, a father passed me yesterday on the sidewalk, they were smoking dope while on the way to the toboggan hill up the street with their two young daughters. I don't know what goes through peoples heads.

Interesting to note, in Japan drivers clock in and have to take a breathalyzer test, then again at the end of the day. The records are kept for a year. Don't know how drug tests are done. Safety is stressed.

Pulling a horse trailer opens your eyes to the stupidity and carelessness of the "average" driver. Live loads can not stop or avoid fools quickly.

What dissuaded you?

Wasn't quite ready for college actually and needed a job. Planned to take a year off then go back but didn't. Got a job that led into an IT career and stayed with it. I started back to school in the early '90s doing evenings/weekends. Then we relocated to Dallas in '94. Started back in '96 and finished a BA in business in '98.

I can attest that it's a hard slog working and going to school. I did the night school thing after high school while working all day in a factory. People in class doing the same would fall asleep only to be lectured by an arrogant prof. Then I worked full time for a while, quit and went back to school. Worked jobs to pay the rent while attending school full time. I honestly don't know how I managed to do it.
