I'm more afraid of other drivers. Stay off I65 as much as I can. My jeep is in good shape tires to roof, but I think 4 flats on the backroads or driving in Manila is safer than that Interstate!

(expletive deleted) Microsoft and their trickery with regards to sneaky installations and "updates" of Win 10. I can't use it because some of the specialized software that I use is not compatible, and some is discontinued so will never be compatible but would cost many thousands of dollars to replace.
1993? Was that the infamous Win 95? I have little trouble with windows and was doing beta until 10. There were some real disastrous versions (win 98, ME, Vista anyone). With win 10 "insider" each release meant a clean wipe to betas and I'm just not willing to run multiple machines anymore. Microsoft is doing some underhanded stuff these days. Still have a couple different units running 7 Pro until 2020. No problem printing or scanning on the network printer so far agedhorse. Have you tried running the compat in admin mode?

Compatibility mode is not helpful, the software was originally released under Win 95 IIRC.
I found Win XP and Win 7 to be reasonably stable, but then again Win 7 is becoming less stable as time goes on. Wonder why?

Even if you denied the Win 10 free upgrade, it got downloaded and ultimately installed automatically unless you go into Win automatic updates and turn them off. That means inspecting each update and sure enough there was the Win 10 script pleading for the download, which automatically updates unless you prevent it. Really, this is a horrible way to do business.
Where I live in the Philippines the internet can be painfully slow, as in dial up slow. I have that damned "10" and anytime the computer is on now there is a fantastic amount of data transfer going on even though nothing is open and the computer is at rest. Because of the limited bandwidth available, the desktop has become a xxl paperweight.
There are so many option to turn off. In default the amount of data in/out is ridiculous. Windows update has three "layers" to filter down to turn off the data share for updates within even your own network. Most people do not want thier computers acting as servers.
It could be my "big brother" paranoia, but I always feel like some serious data mining is going on. Case in point:
I have a Magic Jack account with a U.S. phone number. I recently called my best buddy to arrange a wire transfer to his bank for some money I owed him. He gave me the name of his bank and account number etc. The next day on Facebook a pop-up ad for the same bank shows up. This is just a small local bank I never contacted before! And all info was SPOKEN not texted. ***?
AND, this is the second time something that I said on magic Jack wound up as an ad on Facebunk.

Yeah..i have turned off the auto anything update.. on any software.. i think it is pissed at me, cuz it has to ask daddy if it can play with mama!
Two biggest fields right now in IT from what i understand is data mining and tracking.. the other.. internet security.. .. i'm like .. really!
Spooky stuff Spankda! I'm lucky to be on win 7 enterprise, no forced or even offered win 10 and support is extended for a long time.

Here's a Juicy Tidbit. Intel is MS's evil twin. The skylake CPU/chipset takes drivers not on the Windows 7 install disk. Intel said they would not support windows 7 beginning with skylake, but they gave in. So I jumped through hoops for a week trying to install 7. Gave up and got someone with a better method of installation to do it for me. Intel says they will not support 7 on the later chipset flavors. Skylake, or as I call it, skyFlake, came out last year. It's likely in a store near you. The newer unsupported chipsets are probably out and on motherboards. So beware if you get a new computer planning to put 7 on it. Google install win 7 skylake and read the horror!
By year's end I'll have all our users computers replaced with skyflaked 7 boxes, and will be on 7 for 3 to 5 years. Who knows what after that, I might just sweep floors for the last couple years of employment.
I used Dos, Unix and just a bit of 3.11 then about the same time as you I went to all Linux at home. I need windows at work, but have an older PC I use for that and my good machine is Linux. Servers are all VMs under VMware, many are Fedora or CentOS. One of these days I'll get a workstation and load windows 2012 then run VM's off that, Linux for my "desktop" and single purpose windows VMs for what I need Windows for. I would run VMware on it, but you get no GUI console, so you have to connect to the VMs from another computer. Many think it's Linux, but it's actually a ground up kernel written by the Linux kernel team

Talk about scary - have you seen the message you have to check off on to connect to a Federal website like Social Security?
You basically give them the right to everything on & connected to your computer.
I guess in my case speech recognition technology might be behind it. I will add that I have zero accent or inflection in speech. Perfect candidate for speech recognition.
Magic Jack gives me a Connecticut phone number and family and friends can call any time (hopefully remembering time zones). And very importantly allows me to call toll free numbers which can't be called from here any other way.
My daughter in SoCal was big into wanting to use Skype, but for some reason that has waned off!

I abhor, loath, detest, and downright despise forced anything when it comes to tech. Being forced to upgrade software, which renders all other 3rd party software inoperative until THEY er upgraded as well, always at a cost...then to discover the host hardware is no longer functional...screw em dead.
Gimme a small console, RADAR, and some outboard - force me to upgrade that.
