Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

There is such a thing as spiced too hot for me to enjoy. On the whole, I find it best not to serve hot to guests who I know can't take it. There is a very memorable dinner I threw ... a very slow train coming Thai pork and mango. I say slow train coming because all the guest are pre-warned it is hot. There is beer, there is rice, everything needed in case of emergency.

It's not until well into the meal that the actual heat registers. Before that, everyone is all [conversation stops], [yummy noises], and then the realization that the freight has arrived

My best friend and I were at the Thai restaurant on Roosevelt in Geneva, IL, west of the Fox river. My buddy had spent several months stationed in Thailand during 'Nam and had learned some of the lingo (he even held his wedding in a Thai restaurant further east). When ordering the beef salad (Nam Tok, I think) he tried explaining that he wanted it as hot as they ate it. OK. No problem. Until we started eating it. The entire kitchen staff had brought chairs out of the kitchen and sat their to watch us try to eat their Nam Tok. Holy crapola, it was HOT!. Like f'ing BLAZING! And the place was BYOB. And we hadn't brought any. Quick trip to the tavern next door for a 6er. Each. Both 6ers were gone before we finished the salad. But we did finish it. To much laughter. Ha. Glad we made their night! And I gave my buddy an earful about ordering in English the next time. :speechless:

I grouted some tiles above the tub yesterday. Now I have to wait for a week it to fully cure.

Went to Wal-Mart, there was a line to get in. Usually I get there earlier and there isn't a line with covid door police. The store was low on a lot of products, flashback to last fall when some shelves were empty. I like their Great Value brand basmati rice.

Went for lunch at Wendy's. An idiot in one of those large pickups open their door and whacks my vehicle door. Get out to look for damage and the woman runs back apologizing. She says, I didn't see that you were in the car. Like it's ok to damage someone's property if they don't get caught. Thankfully, no damage.

Was standing at a light waiting to cross at street corner downtown. Someone stops their car while turning and honks, a woman on the passenger side rolls down their window and starts chewing me out for standing on the road and not up on the curb. She was met with a blank stare. Then her husband who was driving felt he needed to repeat what she said. Like it was too much trouble to turn the corner a bit wider. Somehow I don't think that these people ever drive in the city. Now I don't swear but in this case I used some american sign language, I hope that they understood my gesture.

ah yes, the junior policeman salute.

Happy Easter

Yep. Head, hands, elbows. Last time I put a faucet in, the wrench slipped out of my hand, and dropped right onto my eyebrow, leaving me with a remarkable resemblance to this thing: :blackeye: And of course, I reflexively sat upward, and smacked my head on the underside of the sink as well. :wacky:
Next time (like there's going to be a next time ) try one of these:

Plumber's Helper.jpg

I know what I can do and what I shouldn't. Plumbing and electrical are 2 things that cost me less to have a pro do than to have that pro fix what I screwed up.
There's a column in Old House Journal called "Things The (fill in your choice of culprit here) Screwed Up".
Our HP printer died today. Error says there is a problem with the printer (ya think?) or with the ink supply. Put new color cartridges in and same problem. Did all the recommeded troubleshooting steps. No go. I have 75 bucks worth of new cartridges that are useless unless a new printer can use them. Can't complain too much. It's seven yrs old and I think this is the first problem we had. I got a chuckle from one of HP's solutions - Have the printer serviced or replace it. lol.
We got tired of this inkjet BS and bought a laser printer a couple of years ago. Who needs color, anyway? It does scan in color, though.

Ah. A peace sign...Well, 1/2 a peace sign anyway.;)

It really is. Properties sell as fast as they are listed. A lot of sellers are asking nutty prices.

Someone's been trying to flip a house two doors down from me. I know they put money in it. Uncertain if it was real money or what. The house has been on the market now for eight months.

The place at the end of the street went on the market last month. They scheduled an open house by appointment only. The first day they had 92 appointments and got multiple contracts. We looked out the front window at all the people waiting in the appropriately-spaced line that went out of sight down the block. It sold for $50K more than asking, all-cash deal, and the new owners were moved in in less than three weeks. Lord only knows what they must have waived to do it that fast. The previous owner had lived there less than 18 months.

I gave up on inkjets as well. Cartridges would dry up and have to be replaced. That's why they give the printers to you for next to nothing. Very happy with my color laserjet.

I agree with you about inkjet printers. I have two cheap ones destined to recycling. I am hoping to sell my Epson wide format but have not had a need for a color laserjet, being retired ;).

These days you have to have a computer/printer/scanner to deal with some companies.

This week the bank secure emailed me documents, I print them, sign them, scan them, and secure email back. Other things are handled with a digital signature in a conference call. If someone doesn't know how to use a computer, it's more difficult. The bank branch was open through covid for people that can't do things with a computer. Other banks that I deal with were closed due to covid. It was conference calls only.
