Interesting back story about Gerry and Baker Street.

Gerry was in Stealers Wheel with bassist Walter Egan, the smooth sounding Magnet and Steel, a great sounding song. Walter’s song was about his love for Stevie Nicks. Stevie and Lindsay Buckingham sang background on the song and co-produced.

"Happier in studios ..."

That is a option outside covid. Now (almost) everybody is in lockdown studiospace. @GonePlaid being the exception that proves the rule

Great history there. Thanks @beans-on-toast, for sharing that with us!

My older sister is 76. She told me about stocking checks at dinner at her arts school. She didn't go back after her first year, and apparently took a lot of talking to get her to enroll in another school. She finished on the third try with a degree in music. Did orchestra and all.

Arthritis is the reason she gave for selling her late 1800s German bass of unremarkable heritage, and gifting her Kay UB to a nearby music department.

She's the one who was the right age for that whole folk thing. What she missed completely were the rest of the 60s. Orchestra =/= Live at Leeds. Hers is the big bass section in Mahler. Yeah I know she taught me all that, know all her old orchestra friends, the whole deal.

What I'm holding at 13 is the Woodstock album and listening
and listening
and listening

so yeah.

@beans-on-toast I believe the "Egan" in Stealers Wheel was Joe Egan, a guitar player. Walter Egan came from a successful DC (and Boston) area band called "Sageworth and Drums". I saw them a time or two way back when.

I'll forever associate "Stuck in the Middle With You" with Tarantino's "Resevoir Dogs". Note: The squeamish may want to avert their eyes.

Mother's Day brunch at Mrs. Tango's mom's house. Mrs. Tango is doing the cooking. Homemade cinnamon rolls! Her weird wackjob sister replied "No" (nothing more) when invited (good). Mrs. Tango's brother's socially-awkward wife is out of town at her mother's (good), and the brother will be coming with his teenaged son and daughter. I, Mrs. Tango, her mom, and her brother are all vaccinated, so it *should* be okay. The kids will be kept at a distance. It'll be great when it's over. Then home to watch baseball and golf. Then play golf Monday in the old men's league. I am hopeful I can take some of my buddies' quarters home with me. I made a whole $1.25 last Thursday, so hope springs eternal.

Thanks for that! Fixed my post.

They should never have licensed that song to Fruit of the Loom. I now associate it with underwear stuck in the middle.

Hi GOF's. What's everyone up to this weekend. We're cleaning as usual. A song that resonates more today than it did nearly 50 years ago still rings true for me. I thought I'd be young forever. Now the sun comes up faster than it ever did.

We are having some close friends over tomorrow. One of the couples lost their only child due to an auto accident. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is tough for them.

Respect like

"Time" is playing now, thank you

Wow I signed up for Ari's kickoff for her new book and realized minutes ago it's now, midnight for me (and for her) and was totally thinking it Sunday
it's not, live now
Biggest disadvantage of retirement is not knowing whut day it is. They're all pretty much the same.

All that counts is, if it's late enough White Castle is open.

so hey that was pretty cool I would very like have gone to bed and asleep, missing the kickoff entirely. What I heard is
if you're in the cohort (I am) then stick with the cohort
but
if you have gobs of extra time on your hands and other work won't take you away from the cohort
sure

it's a hard day's night
and like you, saw that when it was new. Boys wanted Beatles haircuts. Those four guys were responsible for a lot of musical equipment sales.
As a child it's not my dream to play like the Beatles. It's my dream to play saxophone like my hero Sonny Rollins. It's winter at boarding school and I've got my "stereo" to keep me company after homework hours. I'm permitted to study alone in my room instead of in a supervised group study hall. The ice on the window above the radiator advances by the day. The stereo is below it ... and I listen to Sonny Rollins and Steeleye Span.

And listen to Frank Zappa. Which attracts the attention of the physics teacher who is one of the dorm monitors. We talk of Frank, and of other musical things but there's no music program there in my day.
The saxophone
:: smh ::
it's such an expressive instrument. And there's a bl:):)ding master's degree in transcribing Sonny and Ray Brown, just pure magic

Wonder why I didn't visit The Bridge when I was in The City. I know why :roflmao: it's because at the end of my day my only thought is sleep. Ain't hanging around any longer than necessary. Newark, La Guardia, Kennedy, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden. Fun fact. Didjaknow if the hospital fills you so full of morphine to tell me I've had enough to put a horse down, and then you have a couple pints of Guinness until the trains are running ... what it means is in that state one is fearless enough to be immune to the C.H.U.D.s
