It's amazing what skilled artists can do with covers in terms of doing justice to the original, but adding something new. I really enjoyed this little YouTube piece by James Taylor on that very subject: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zbXEc4L4_E

His comments about covers is spot on. I love taking a tune and doing something different even something as simple as playing a swing as Latin or a ballad as a 12/8 Afro-Cuban.

Always good to make a song your own. He has a nice recording space.

JT has a special tuning that he uses to make his instruments sound better. Peterson tuners come with it.

I prefer listening to recordings like this even if there are a few gaffs. There needs to be some emotion and a sense of the players enjoying what they are doing.

I have a CD of a group where I know how it was recorded and produced. I love the writing and arranging and have heard many of the tunes live. I couldn't even get halfway through the CD. It was tiresome listening to it. Sterile with some sort of sharp edge on the sound is a good way to describe it. I don't know if it was something in the recording or production process. I know they went back and punched in stuff including ONE note on a particular tune.

Mrs. Dog, and many of her friends, admit to being quilters and embroiderers. But I don't believe I've heard any of them claim to be a seamstress. However[!], there is this one professional instructor who is very popular in this "occupation" that seems more than a little questionable!! The ladies always get all giggley from her videos. The script continuity error IMO is people wealthy enough for first class passage would have been ignorant of the curious ways of the working class. One thing that hasn't changed — one prostitution conviction means from here on in that's your only avenue of income because nobody hires a convicted sex worker. Sadly, I believe you are correct.

Kinda related, people are starting to see that posting political thoughts on social media can lead to the same result regardless of where on the spectrum one’s thoughts might lean.

I’m glad that social media did not exist when I was young and just starting my career. I was far more outspoken in those days.
