Don't tell me people still hate Dylan for going electric??? How would you like it if folks told you you were only allowed to play music the way they wanted you to play it, and then with only the instruments they allowed you to use? I think the 'folkies' back then (when Dylan switched to electric folk rock) behaved like music Nazis!! (Or at best, immature brats...)

At my UU church we regularly sell out (pre-Covid and hopefully soon again) a good sized room to fans who come to see and hear folk artists, who BTW would all be quite surprised to hear that their music has been doomed by electric instruments... (Or by Dylan??? Are you serious?) New modern folk artists use whatever instruments they damn well please (geez, some even use Rickenbackers!) as they have confidence in their talent and abilities and also in the maturity of their audiences.

I still say that degrading hard working performers because they don't live up to one's foolishly idealistic expectations of them is immature. If you don't like what they're doing you're always free to leave and go elsewhere to be a fanboy.

Noticing none here appear particularly phased that Bob Dylan is 80. 80. That is not a great deal older than I am.

I have nothing against BD on a personal level, nor do I begrudge him reaching 80(4 more years for me-maybe), but I still switch channels when he is played.

Geddy Lee falls into that category for me. On a few tunes he's okay. My opinions only. Feel free to disagree but you're wrong. Love the music! There are a few videos of Neal Peart playing the drums along with tracks. What a great player! So sad to have lost him.

Back in the mid-90s before the Internet of Things, we had dial-up bulletin boards and listservs. I participated in the National Midnight Star listserv hosted on a U of Maryland server. When Neal lost his wife (to cancer) and his only child (daughter to car accident) within 12 months of each other, we all thought Rush were finished. Then Neal returned and they released Vapor Trails. To their immense credit, they released a remixed version of Vapor Trails, apologizing for the intensity of the crushed original mix. They weren't in the best mood. It's amazing to me how much better the remix is. Way better.

Here's the t-shirt the members of the listserv produced. Don't wear it often. Special occasions only. It's about 25 years old.

Huge Styx fan here. Started with them in the suburban Chicago clubs. They had the chops even then. Adding Tommy Shaw didn't hurt them. They survived losing John Panozzo in '96. They survived his brother's pedestrian bass playing. Their final tour date in '97 in Chicago was one of my favorite concerts. Return To Paradise indeed!

That gets you a sus chord but sounds terrible with the fourth on the bottom and the third should be omitted on a sus. But if it's what he wanted, so be it, but I don't have to like it.

It would work as a pedal tone in a ii-V-I in A resolving to the A. Pedal the five of the I chord over the ii-V part.

I think you're right. It sticks in my craw sometimes when a guitar player does a full barre chord when only three or four notes are needed. Then they wonder why the sound is muddy.

What the heck is a craw anyway? Figuring that out will probably keep me awake tonight. I need an assistant to handle this stuff.

That is likely his approach on harmonica playing, too. It's just there to accompany his poetry. It is a matter of luck if what he plays actually fits the chords...unlike Stevie Wonder for example.
