IME, a lot of old Bluegrass was not recorded well. Kinda hard to listen to when it sounds like there was one mic in the middle of somebody's living room.

Carter Family is what first grabbed me for bluegrass ... wait, what were they, Country or Bluegrass? Proto- one or the other?

That seems to still be the traditional setup as I have observed it! Singers are all just a step, or two, from the single mic, and step up, or back, as their part requires. My electric bass is only tolerated when there is no upright acoustic bass available.

Recently was asked at work to read and comment on an article for publication in a trade journal before it was sent out. I mentioned that my responses were related to AP Style rules that I felt the journal would probably be looking for. A puzzled look greeted that statement across the Teams online meeting.
I used to enjoy reviewing articles for publication. I’d rip them to shreds. It wasn’t just about grammar but also technical content and order/logic of presentation. The papers would wind up very different. It does help a lot to have things reviewed from a distant perspective. It’s a matter of scale. Writers would often get lost working up close, you need to see it by standing further back.
It's not. And as Spock would probably observe, it is also, "highly illogical."
You would mix by stepping up and moving back from the one mic. My first band was like that, bass, guitar, and vocals all plugged into the same amp.

Working on deadline at a daily newspaper is exhilarating. Working on deadline in the center of the cyclone for a daily newspaper client is even better. A thousand and one nights for the Scheherazade of press time. And then do it again

Oh heartily agree. I'm just surrounded by people who seem to think the grammar and context levels of a normal email are fine for publication. I'm no expert by any means (I'm a designer and engineer) but I do have an idea what to look for. I like my articles to be crafted and well-written, but I seem to be the minority. Of course, the fact that my writing takes about 3 times longer to complete than my contemporaries may have something to do with how management looks at the work.
I have to say that not being the literary scholar that some of you are I find the computer aids helpful as a learning tool as far as spelling, word usage, and other aspects. I just got to make sure that the end product is the thought that I was trying to convey.
Improper grammar (whatever that may be...not whatever may be taught in grammar school, I guess) is rampant on the internet and a bit disturbing to me. These bass player forums are surprisingly the opposite. The automotive forum that I frequent is just frustrating to me. There is a total lack of punctuation, capitalization,...any kind of indication where one thought ends and the next starts. It is hard to read through that and respond without getting insulting.
I'll ask the poster to reread what they wrote and see if it makes sense to them. When you do bring that up you get accused of being a grammar nazi. "Gee, I didn't know I was gonna get graded on this". (sigh)
