Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Sometimes being a GOF has its rewards:
Some of you know I am retired and I have a little home recording studio to keep me off the streets and (mostly) out of trouble. Several weeks ago I was working on a little groove - all I had was the bass and a rough drum track and a simple guitar part. My thirteen year old daughter, Joy ( aptly named) was listening. Now up to this point she never really expressed an interest in what I was doing in the studio. She asked if she could get a copy of what little I had. She said she wanted to write some lyrics and melody for it. Two hours later she came back and layed down this vocal in 2 takes. I added the rest around her vocal with her acting as producer. This was all her first try at any of it. This is a very rough and unfinished "work in progress". In truth I am more than a little jealous of her God given talent. I just pray she develops it.

She sings in an A'Cappella group more as a hobby.
I just gave her my acoustic electric for her B-day, hoping she'll learn.
She's in the unique position of understanding what chasing those dreams is all about
and I think she just prefers enjoying the time she spends singing.
At this point she's a hyper stressed out young executive manager, so I thought the guitar would help her escape a bit.
I remember the 1st time she was selected to sing the national anthem in front of the entire high school.

Wow. Now that's really cool, and a LOT better than what seems to pass for music these days too!
When I was her age my older brother was a local football star as was our dad when he was young. I was expected to follow the family tradition, probably because I was a big kid. I didn't have it in me and wound up as a moderately successful musician. My daughter is a pretty good singer, but her real natural talent is her golden ears (think producer) and song writing skills. Her response when I compliment her: "Oh anybody can do that."
My challenge is to not push, beg, bribe or shame her in an effort to make her pursue MY goals. I don't want to be a "stage mother".
But I will say "A Dream Called Life" was not a fluke. She has several more and they are all good pop tunes, well crafted compositions. I guess time will tell......

I'm only 41 but getting bloody grumpier with each day that passes... I'm also noticing an influx of inexperienced 'young people' that don't read the threads properly here and think this site is like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or ...insert latest BS social media app/site for them to puff their ego and play 'look at me and my three gigs (at school) experience...' and I have all the answers routine.... Arrrrrrgh !

How's this for grumpy... with the current house prices here in Aus, I won't even be able to afford a lawn to tell kids to get off ! These b*stards buying up all the property in Melbourne as investments and rentals are going to deny me my right to have that pleasure
The average price of a simple home here has just shot up to $650k in even the $hitiest suburbs of my home town/state... I'm not exaggerating.
One of my friends just paid that for a nice 2 bedroom condo in the heart of Reston Town Center.
Average house prices start around $400K and up around D.C.
Best way to get into a single family home today is find a nice lot and build, even if you have to start small.
22 years back, I went modular. The house was under roof in 4 1/2 hours.
The house ran $44K, finished price $130K in addition to the lot which ran $103K.
When you build you save at least 30% and have that instant equity the minute you get your occupancy permit.
I wish I had been able to afford 2X6 exterior walls like my neighbor's house.
Their utilities run 1/2 of mine and I built a pretty tight house.

Every library and every courthouse has what is known here a The Lusk Directory.
It tells you who is paying taxes on the property.
You find a vacant lot, checking with a few close neighbors to make sure good well water is easily available and doesn't taste like sulfur.
Ask if they need water treatment for their home.
Find the lot on the tax map and see who owns it. Ask if they might consider selling.
If a Realtor is listing the lot, its already overpriced.
I used to have a real estate license.
There are thousands of people sitting on very nice lots, but owning vacant land is all out-go money,
so if holding the land and paying taxes has become a burden, they might sell. They just need a nudge.
If the owners are out of town, like by inheritance, they may not even know what they really have.
Sub the build out yourself or hire a turn key builder.
I sub'd mine out which required a huge bottle of Tylenol!

Thanks bloke, I'll do some research... However I'm afraid all our tax laws ensure complete privacy, entities here don't have to publicly post their incomes or tax payments (to the best of my knowledge).
I think it may be different with vacant land if you are looking for who owns it.
The library or land records should be able to guide you.
You're not looking for tax payment information, but simply for who pays them.
It should be a matter of public record.

Might I add, that taking all night long to do it, usually comes along with some type of pain during and after.

Ha ha... Ok B, I understand... Rules are rules and I'm good with that. I can keep my head down, work hard and maybe a few years dowin the track I might be eligible
my body is way ahead on some of those finer points, I have an Acoustic cab accelerated shoulder injury and my lower back (according to a specialist) is in degeneration, but I'll work on the rest... and I do pop the occasional pill during/prior to relations, but I'm not sure they are the same ones... LolYou guys have a great day/night, and I'll keep practising my grumpiness on those punks that cross my path an insist on pi$$ing me off...
