Every library and every courthouse has what is known here a The Lusk Directory.
It tells you who is paying taxes on the property.
You find a vacant lot, checking with a few close neighbors to make sure good well water is easily available and doesn't taste like sulfur.
Ask if they need water treatment for their home.
Find the lot on the tax map and see who owns it. Ask if they might consider selling.
If a Realtor is listing the lot, its already overpriced.
I used to have a real estate license.
There are thousands of people sitting on very nice lots, but owning vacant land is all out-go money,
so if holding the land and paying taxes has become a burden, they might sell. They just need a nudge.
If the owners are out of town, like by inheritance, they may not even know what they really have.
Sub the build out yourself or hire a turn key builder.
I sub'd mine out which required a huge bottle of Tylenol!
I think minimum "House" size here is 700 sq feet.
I built 1750 sq feet over a 950 sq ft. full basement averaging $65.00 per sq ft.
Finished upstairs a year later for $20K.
( Wish I had added 3 more courses of block in the basement to get 10' ceilings down there)
Don't play their game, buy smart within your means.
You can always add on, so plan for that too.
Wow FF! Nice done. As a carpenter, I'm really interested in your architectural scheme. I think through self efficiency
one might be able to score more beer. and gear
fnord!
This grumpy old fart is especially grumpy hearing that the powers that be have now put our region at risk by transferring the nurse from Texas to NIH in Bethesda.
My middle daughter works in Bethesda!
There's also an inmate in our local county jail system who may have been exposed.
The scariest part about this Ebola outbreak is hearing public officials tell us they've got it under control, when they totally don't!
How can they control something with a 21 day incubation cycle?
Dont' you mean "...fail to correct..."?Of course that means even more money to study and correct the failure.
This virus doesn't care who you are, how rich, how poor, how old, or what you believe to be right or wrong.
It kills indiscriminately.
I was laughing (instead of shrieking) at the paper a couple of days ago. The president has given the pentagon the power to call up the national reserves to: "fight the ebola virus." Can anyone imagine a more idiotic response to a contagious killer than to send in troops to become infected chosen among all 50 state's weekend warriors? That would be like flying an infected case to the nation's capital where representatives of every state frequently use said airport… coming from and going to the populace that they "represent." I'm not positive, but I think I just saw a FNORD!Very well said IMO.
