Alright all you GOF's! Early Roll Call this Friday Memorial Day Weekend! Account for all hands toes appendages accounted for...wife Carey and I are planning on a couple solid days of more spring cleaning. It feels great to toss off the remnants of winter. We have Omaha Steaks Burgers-- they're quite delicious. Also we're making some homemade potato salad Saturday and we'll have that with burgers on Memorial day. I'm putting together my secret baked beans (Bushes BBQ beans and I add onions then BBQ slowly )

Then we're going to plant flowers on brother Tom's and Mom and Dad's graves. Mom and Dad were buried together. Tom's buried on the civilian side (about 100 feet from Mom and Dad's grave) and Mom and Dad are interred at the Veteran's National Cemetery as he was a WWII vet. He fought under General MacArthur's wing in the Pacific Theater. My grandfather was in WWI and fought in Europe so I guess the Army is in my blood.

We’re making it a four day weekend. Started with an early walk in the park then over to a nearby area to look at some old mansions. The architecture is spectacular. A lot of hills, great exercise. A drive in the country tomorrow. A stroll through an old graveyard on Sunday.

These long walks take a lot out of me. I soldier on.

Yup , I'm still here. Got a sub gig tonight with one of the hottest guitar players I have ever worked with. Did one with this guy a couple of months ago and had an absolute blast. Definitely looking forward to it. I guess we'll be making up the set list 45 minutes before we go on....just like the last time we played together.

Yeah we did a lot of that too but it was nice going into it with some songs that we all knew well.

Got a Bluegrass Jam Saturday afternoon. Invited a newly acquainted young acoustic guitar player to come steal my title of youngest muso in attendance (by a few decades). Also expecting company, youngish friends from some years back, with or without one or more of their 3 teenagers. Depending on when they arrive, I may end up driving the youngest muso at the Jam, if the right teenager comes and is interested!

Playing Contemporary Christian in the early church service Sunday morning, which is always uplifting. Then playing along to the traditional hymns in the second service for even more spiritual warmth. Should be a beautiful sunny Sunday, for a change.

Been cleaning the pool and patio for cookouts with family and friends this summer. First (small) pool party was late yesterday evening when a grandson unexpectedly brought some friends over! But they headed to the woods with 4-wheelers this morning. So, nothing else definitely planned for this weekend but, something will definitely be cooked out at some point.

And, all weekend long we will remember and give thanks for those who served our country. Our way of life owes more than we can even say, certainly much more than could ever be paid, to them.

Looking out the window of my second floor music room, I can see across a couple cornfields to a little rural cemetary. It's only about an acre. It contains graves back to the Mexican War, and as recent as Afghanistan. It contains friends, neighbors, family, and former students of mine. Someday I'll be there too.

Hola, Ladies and Gents! Some not so gentle and some not so lady like.

Putting a car up for sale, working around the very humble abode (after downsizing), visiting fiends and family, probably an outing to the beach. Checking in on TB. Thanks to the GOF's for lots of entertainment and wisdom.

My long weekend started yesterday with a dinner/awards event for grandparents volunteering in their community. Today, to the doc for a checkout.

So, mundane but necessary stuff. Enjoying the great LA weather. Lots of sunshine after a few days of surprise rain and downpour.

PS. I picked up a cool little "personal" fan. About a foot tall and 5" wide. It oscillates and has 3 speed. The silver part is where the air comes out. Kinda like having air on your face in an airline seat. Keeps me cool without bothering anything else.

This Curbow came straight off the wall at GC about 12 yrs ago. $250, if I remember correctly. Salesman said it had been hanging there too long. The GC team thought that finish...they called it Bowling Ball Orange...was keeping folk from buying it.
I thought it was beautiful, in a weird sorta way.

...my first 5, the smoothest, truest neck I’ve ever played.
Ergonomically Sweet, but not designed to play sitting down.

I’ve loved it so much for so long that, last Spring, when we came across this Cort ABG at a pawn shop in Moab, I was All In at first glance!

It’s my ‘plug in’ ABG, and I can get a nice wooden tone with it through my SWR LA15. I’m still searching for the sound through a li’l
Roland Micro Cube RX that arrived at my door last month.

Bowling ball orange ... they're kind of close. In the world of fountain pens, one of the holy grails for some is the Conklin "Halloween" in either Ebonite or celluloid (I forget which one). The black and orange swirl is still manufactured for that use. I have a bespoke fountain pen - wait two bespoke fountains in Halloween livery and would play that bass in a hot second

Yep, which means the 50th anniversary of Mario Andretti's only Indy 500 win. For those who don't already know, he did that without ever changing his right rear tire, the one that typically takes the most stress on a counterclockwise oval like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The wheel was stuck on the hub and Andretti chose to carry on rather than lose time trying to fix that. There were many other issues too, as detailed below. His grandson will be in the race on Sunday, trying the break the family curse of only one win in 60+ attempts.
