I steam most vegtables. Healthier than boiling. Hard or semi-hard boiled eggs work well steamed.

With asperagus, I find that the larger diameter stocks are more flavorable than the thin shoots. Wash well, some have sand in the tips. Break them short enough, steam untill soft, a bit of butter and lemon.

Roasting vegetables works well too.

Parsnips, though, parsnips gathered after the first frost are (in my not-so-humble-opinion) best blanched then slowly sauteed in butter.

Turnips are a great winter vegetable too, and essentially absent from any dinner menu I've ever read.

Garlic scapes are in, and will come home Saturday with any rhubarb I still see.

We procure a year's supply of organic rhubarb in the spring. Cook it and freeze in ziploc bags. Defrost as needed. Apparently, it goes well with vanilla yogurt.

Yes! Once baked, mash them with one of those stick thingys and they make a good soup stock. Way better than simmering bones for hours.

I forgot about this thread! While finishing up some PCB layouts, I'm thinking about working on my '53 GMC and getting that closer to the finish line. I'm about 95% done, full brake system replacement is next. I will call my announcer buddy who I worked with for 25 years on the road doing horse entertainment and rodeo events and pay my respects to he and his Navy brothers, he served during the Korean War. I think he's 83 this year, we co-wrote the military tribute show segment almost 15 years ago and we performed that segment a couple hundred times since then. It was hid tribute to his real brother who also served and had passed.

Did my usual get-up-in-the-middle-of-my-sleep thing (I work nights) to participate in the Memorial Day ceremony at work. I'm the bugler in the veterans rifle squad that pays tribute every Veterans Day and Memorial Day at the main postal processing facility where I work.

On a "lighter" note, sent the band my retirement notice yesterday. Getting too old to gig and work on Friday nights. Arthritis sucks. Gave them three months notice, promised to fulfill all currently booked gigs and help new guy if/when they find him. I only asked that I be allowed to perform at the last gig we currently have booked which is the state fair 8/26. I figured since this will probably be my last gig, I'd like to go out with a relatively big show. BL is getting all pissy with me about how he might need to "dangle that gig" to attract a replacement.... unless I can maybe do more gigs until the end of the year. Yes, he's a major douche and another reason I'm bailing. Ah well, in the words of Super Chicken: "Well Fred, you knew the job was dangerous when you took it".

I was driving one of our volunteers home last night, and caught this shot of a tornado dropping out of the cloud. This funnel didnt touch down, but a couple of others did. Tis the season. Also, the Mississippi at our town is rising, again, and flood barriers are going up, again. Stuff is getting weird.
