What strings do you like using on a Martin six?

I changed mine after about 25 years (June 21, 1994 ) on my HD-28 and couldn't find the same type from Martin that I was using. Installed a set of phosphor bronze Lifespan SP, light (12-54), MSP7100. I like the sound of the old ones. Maybe I just like dead strings.

The people on the Martin Forum spend at least as much time discussing strings as TBers do. My own personal choice has been Martin SP4200, which is no longer made, but still available via Amazon. It"s a medium .013-.056 phosbronze. I have never been able to stand the sound of treated or coated strings.

Danny Partridge was a good businessman and negotiated a number of endorsement deals with amp manufacturers over the period that the show was on air.

He also designed his own cabinets and amps. Those are the ones on the show that had no badges. They went down so well that Partridge Transformers Limited was founded in the UK. Their transformers were used in Hiwatt and Sound City amps.

In the UK Partridge were winding transformers in the fifties and earlier. I doubt that there was any connection to Danny.

Besides @GonePlaid making an early report, please front and center report in that all appendages, attachments, etc. accounted for. Carey and I are going to a fish and chips fund raiser tomorrow. The local fishermen donated fresh never frozen halibut and scallops. Hand cut fries. We won't do much outdoors because the weather report calls for drizzle all weekend. Good day to catch up on inside stuff. Sometimes in the morning I'll get up early, cook breakfast, and Carey will get up and while we eat we'll watch a corny whodunnit on the Lifetime movie channel. Watching those low budget movies sometimes are really a hoot. We laugh and pick out all the inconsistencies...

The fresh sea food sounds delicious!!! No particular plan for the weekend. I took off early from work and mowed my lawn. I'm about to fix the Friday fish feast for dinner. Knowing me, I'll probably jump in the old boat-hauler ('86 Mazda B2000) and harrass some bass. I replaced my five-year old marine battery last Saturday. I didn't even charge it, made four trips with it (powering my trolling motor) and that thing is still zippy. I was only getting two trips out of the old one before needing to re-charge and the second return trip was very slow...

That was a nice car. A friends dad had one in light blue.

Nice enough vehicle. Hauled my guitars and a couple of Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve amps to lotsa gigs. But would've been a heckuva lot nicer with A/C!

Strung up my 'lectric geetar with a new set of strings and discovered that I can actually still play it, kinda. And now my wife's saying she wants an acoustic guitar or maybe keyboard, which is a nice excuse for me to try a bunch of different things. But it needs to end up being hers, not just more of my detritus.

And then my neighbors are doing the grand debut for their new catering company tomorrow. It's in the park two blocks from here, a one day wine and arts festival thingie. A TB'er friend will be playing bass there, one that my luthier friend built for him actually, and I'll probably have a grand time in the beer garden with a cold one and some smoked brisket.

Yamaha acoustics are worth looking at. A secret weapon in a lot of studios.

Yep, there's a nice Yamaha over at my friend's jam space and I've played a zillion other nice cheap ones. But new won't be happening, so it'll just depend on what's kicking around town at the moment.

I'm quite familiar with Nords, but that's massive overkill for a first time beginner, I think. I'll bet I could find a broken Roland, Korg, etc. syth for free and fix it, most likely. For myself I could be happy with the software sampler I already have, or even the ancient rack one I use with my guitar synth. Zip Drive, baybee...!

I'm quite familiar with Nords, but that's massive overkill for a first time beginner, I think. I'll bet I could find a broken Roland, Korg, etc. syth for free and fix it, most likely. For myself I could be happy with the software sampler I already have, or even the ancient rack one I use with my guitar synth. Zip Drive, baybee...!

Some nice inexpensive midi keyboards available with weighted or semi-weighted or synth style keys. Maybe in conjunction with the sampler. I connect MIDI keyboards to my DAW interface and use instrument plugins with samples built in.

An old piano can sometimes be had for the price of removal. Some good finds out there and gives you yet another restoration project. But they take up space. My Hammond BCV costed $75.

Yeah, I've done the piano drill, but there's just not enough room at the inn right now. I already showed my wife the mini keyboard controller I have and the sampler, that's a nope. Just your basic Casio or low end M-Audio thing is probably going to work fine while she decides if keys are for her. I'll shoot for at least semi-weighted if at all possible. I'm guessing that nylon string guitar is going to be the best fit though. It's all good, and not about me at all for once.

But my sister started on a Martin tenor guitar, moved to a D-18, and eventually moved to upright bass. One can hope, at least.

Thanks for that, I will check into those. I haven't bought strings in a few years, as the last time I did I got plenty to last for a long time (I still have some new TI Jazz Rounds I have not put on any basses that I can't remember exactly when I got them; probably about 10 years ago!). I have bought from Just Strings over the years.

Before putting the MSP7100s on the OM-18 I had John Pearce PB Lights that I liked, too, but the Martin strings last so much longer, for me.

All here, still taking it easy on my right knee that I banged really hard into a couple weeks ago.

We're probably going to check out a new (for us) antique shop or two over the weekend (we really need to spend more money on old stuff! ).

I have not made any photos of the trestle table yet. There's a bunch of stuff on it at the moment (old and new), and, actually has been since the day we brought it home.

Take a look at the Williams Legato. $200 +/- and does a lotta stuff. Coupla good demos on yoot oob.

Looking at an "interesting" weekend. Turned down overtime at work so I can hit a jam party at the house of a former bandmate. He and his neighbor throw a big party every July that spans both their back yards and includes a stage and PA. It's a day of bands and musicians stopping by and having fun. The neighbors set up lawn chairs and such on their decks to watch the festivities. I'm going to need the emotional lift from Saturday's party when I head to a memorial service for an old friend on Sunday. (Great drummer and former bandmate passed...) Taking the wife with me for support and staying over at a Motel so I don't have to worry about the 2 hour drive back home after the memorial and whatever transpires afterwards. It's hell getting old, but it beats the alternative. F#@% cigarettes...
