Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I still ride and train horses 5 days a week, but I pace myself way better now than ever before. I am also just a bit more careful, tough I am training a mustang I just acquired... a 3 year old mind in a 9 year old body. It's easier with the many years of experience that I now have, I don't have to make (as many) stupid mistakes as I did when I was young. ;)

Jeez, I was just kidding about ric426 staying of his bike… like that hard headed old geezer's going to listen to me anyway.

Hey, I knew you were pulling my leg. Careful though, these days that could have the same result as "pull my finger".
Besides, you're right. I rode again today and was able to complete my usual trail ride for the first time in well over a year. There have been times this year when I wondered if I'd get to do it again at all, but the doctors came through for me. My goal was to get at least one full ride in before I hit 63 in October and I did it! I'll be able to keep riding now until it gets too cold to be enjoyable in a few months. Go to the gym over the winter and be in good shape to start again in the spring. That does wonders for my happiness and frame of mind.

I worked draft horses until just a few years ago. And have been a cowboy (a real one) and broken several horses. I just gave away a Tennessee Walker I had. The guy who gave him to me couldn't ride him. I rode him for about 7 years. I love horses and still have 3. I perform clinical qigong/Chinese medical therapeutics on horses with phenomenal result rates - should have moved to Kentucky and gotten in on the race horse business.
But I do think I am too old (and grumpy) to mess with training a new mustang - I admire your enthusiasm to keep at it.

Bebass - I understand the draft thing after training some Friesians over the past 15 years (and still owning/performing with one). Their gait is getting kind of tough on the 'ol back, especially working cattle off of them ;)

I always like "low brow, pretentious, hipsters"!
One of the 'benefits' of being old is sometimes you get to see history being made. 50 years ago today, on Aug. 29, 1965, 2 weeks after Shea Stadium, I saw the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl!! It still is one of the most treasured memories of my life! I was pretty sure I wanted to be a musician before that, afterwards I had no doubt:bassist: Jim

#95 here. My dad had a heart attack 2 Fridays ago. And I was freaking out pretty hard… I had told myself that I moved back to Louisiana to give support to my parents in their dying days…. Turns out, I shrivel like a leaf. The horror was that I'd told him the day before not to go sit on the front porch in the 100 degree heat or he was going to have a heart attack. The good news is my father came through an open heart surgery, valve bi-pass or something like that and is still alive and is back at home. Excuse me if I kiss the sky.
here's Marmaduke checking on me after I spent nervous energy creating Space Mountain.

I've had a clot in my heart that did permanent damage, bypass open heart surgery, four stents and had to have one of my carotid arteries cleaned out. My Dad had a total of five life threatening heart events in his life. I guess it's bad genes.

You and your Dad need to take care of each other. Visit often, stay in touch, call weekly. Let the kids learn to know their Grand Dad well. Life is short and only comes around once.

I never saw the Beatles live. I was kind of a year or two behind them. A fellow Grammar School student brought them to my attention but by the time I was out gigging they had left Liverpool heading for the stratosphere! I did play many of the same venues that they did including the Carvern.

I never got to see the Beatles either. I did get to see James Brown and the Fabulous Flames in the 1960's. That was a show that I will never forget. I also got to see Paul Revere and the Raiders. They put on a fun show.

That's cool! Was the original Cavern Club? It's my understanding that the original was torn down to make a parking lot for a train station or something and the present one is a re-creation. I was 12 when I saw them, but I knew every piece of equipment they were playing, and Pauls' amp blew out between a Hard Days Night and Help! Jim
