I keep changing what basses, guitars, I hang on the wall. She sees something "different" whenever she ventures into the dungeon.
We were in Nashville a couple years ago. After seeing the look on my face playing a refin 63 P bass at Carter Vintage, she actually tried to TALK ME into it. (I didn't buy it. Too much money to sink into something I wouldn't play all that much as I mostly play 5 strings. But, man, that was a sweet sounding/playing bass.)

I guess I'm "lucky"? The wife is usually the one saying to buy whatever I happen to be playing. I'm the one saying I have plenty and we don't have bass buying money right now.

Just got a pretty nice change in job positions that will allow me to make... unwise decisions. Told my wife that I told Chad at The Bass Shop in Seattle that I'd likely be buying next time I dropped in, and she said...
"Go for it! ...just get me an Apple Watch in rose gold".
OK, not a bad tradeoff.

At the moment I have two basses... I managed to buy a new padded strap which "She who must be obeyed" allowed because it was cheaper than buying a lighter bass... Well I was just thinking out loud and innocently mentioned that I would like to trade my active Fender jazz for something else.. or just sell it and have one bass. She surprisingly said.. NO, you have to have two basses in case one fails. I was floored.. so while the light is Green, I'm going to drive on over to Sam Ash with the wife and look for another bass. stay tuned.

I'm married to a saint. She puts up with me, which is part of it, but she doesn't have a shoe habit, shopping habit, or any other expensive habits that I can hide my GAS pains induced behavior behind. Which makes it tough to justify buying anything I want but don't really need. That's what this place is for - figuring out how to convince each other that we really do need one more. It's a public service that keeps the economy rolling along. Without TB, the entire economic structure of the planet would crash and burn. Kinda like the fact that the human speices would cease to exist if bass players didn't cause human mating behavior with their music.

I've got a great one she's simple and not hung up on getting this or that. She enjoys the music and most of the people associated with it. Like a lot of others I'm always looking, so recently seen the Custom Shop in my avatar showed her some pictures we talked about the cost as my piggy bank was shopping and she said buy it. Then I see a MIA Geddy and mention trading my Martin acoustic awesome instrument but that project never got any traction so worked out the trade for the Geddy. I know not all of our significant others are not quite as easy going she's helped through the rough patches and the same with the good so I'm a lucky guy for sure.
Oh... so that's where that $500 went. It's ya'll's fault, dammit!
I just bring em home. She a has a monthly $$ hair appointment and enjoys her $$ herbal treats. So she never argues it.
Well... not my spouse because i'm divorced 30yrs but I did help finance (mostly) my daughter's trip to Paris. She controls my G.A.S. spending and gave me her blessings (ok then permission) to buy a 'Ray' of my choice. I learned from past experience how it works, but you DO 'reap what you sow' whether its spouse or daughter.
Ok, so I get that this is a tongue in cheek "hide my new stuff from my wife so I don't get in trouble" thread.... but... anyone who actually has to do that married the wrong person. I could care less what she buys with her money and she definitely could care less what I do with mine.
