You have to go with the Mexican-made Geddy if you want the sunburst finish.

Yes, and if you can find one under 9 lbs (mine is 8 lbs 14 oz) even better!
Is that new? I swear I used to see burst as an option on the site. You're right though, only black today.
Been a P bass guy all my life, I’ve tried many Jazz basses mostly Fender and Squier, I just recently got this D Lakin and it’s the only Jazz I kept and gigged with because it’s that good, they are hard to come by but they pop up once in awhile !!
The one that plays and sounds the best. I tried 50 different passive fender p and j basses until I found a MIA jazz special that I bonded with. The consistency from bass to bass within a series isn't there IMO. Play the four models and find the one that resonates with you (pun intended)

and i tend to play my basses a bit higher on the strap as well. After trying out lots of basses over the last 43 years, I have finally come to the same conclusion about bigger-bodied basses.I got to try out my New to me US GL jb2 at practice yesterday for the first time, playing for about 2 1/2 hours,and it’s pretty much a perfect fit for me.The fact that it weighs 7.2 pounds also was really nice. And it has a fantastic sound/feel,almost like a Jazz Rickenbacker. (This was with Labella flatwounds,too.....it sounded especially good on Led Zeppelin’s good times bad times.)
I voted for the Flea but when it comes down to really wanting to play a jazz bass, won't your first choice still be the DJ5? Personally I really like having the B string at my disposal.

for me , it comes down to the fretboard radius ... since i played mostly 5vers for the last few decades , a neck with a tiny radius ( 7.5 ) actually hurts my left hand after a bit ..?? i prefer 9.5 -10 on my 4 strings , which is similar to my slightly narrowly spaced 5vers .. less of a shock when switching back/forth ...YMMV
In my opinion the USA Geddy is an excellent choice. The neck is very different than the non USA versions, much fatter but more true to the seventies feel. I love bound and blocked necks, and this feels like a custom shop quality bass.
You are right, the DJ5 and Pentabuzz will still come first. This bass is more a collection or bucket list sort of purchase.

Despite the fact a Fender JB was the first “real bass” I ended up playing when I first branched away from upright bass, I never bonded with them as much as you’d have thought someone like me might.
That said, I’ve tried out the Flea and USA Geddy and thought both sounded great and played beautifully. I liked the neck on the Geddy a little bit more. But you can fly around the neck on either - and the tone on both is very responsive to your playing technique.
I’d be perfectly happy playing either a Flea or Geddy if I wanted to rock a JB.

I chose the USA Geddy Lee over the MIM, however I would go for the CIJ over both for value
Then go for the Flea. Gigging a RW pink nitro stack knob with killer neck and pure vintage ‘62 pups is really fun. Also a joy to behold. Nothing else quite like it.
I vote Geddy US.
Had one myself until a few weeks back....sold it.....now GAS'ing for another.
I'm not really a Jazz bass fan, but that instrument could nail it all. Awesome.

I never kept pickup covers on a bass, but those covers make your bass look super vintage!
I have a nicely priced american standard with stack knobs in the classifieds, just in case you're interested.
