As the title says I am looking at getting a new cab soon, looking for opinions on what setup I should look into? A 410, 215, 610, or 810 (or two 410's making an 810 basically). I have played a 410 and 610 before, however I have become interested in a 215 or getting an 810 and basically being set for whatever the future may hold as far as gigs and venues.

Best you can do is play a bunch and see what you like. There's 15's that are bright and grindy and those that are deep and mellow, same goes for the rest of the designs. Any decent 215 or 610 can do most any big, loud gig. Some 410's might come up a little short in big situations, but mostly because they're short. Too much sound hitting you in the knees, not enough in the ears. Any of the taller cabs fix that.
Yes of course. I currently own no cab. I play mostly rock (yeah ha ha my avatar) but looking for something with not only volume but versatility as well. Weight and transport are not really a problem, but that is not to say that smaller and lighter would not be a welcome thing. I know in saying that the 810 is pretty much shunned, but I look past those factors if everything else is right. My amp is a Peavey Tour 450 and mainly use a Fender P bass.
Added more info above, now what say all of you? Trying out some of each would be an on going process because there are different brands obviously and setups that sound different from the next. Also I know some brands I wish to pursue, however local music stores around my area both in the new or used departments never seem to have those particulars in stock. I honestly have yet to see a 2x15 cab in any local music store around my area. Sad I know.
How handy are you? If you can wait and save, I think a 215 build like JohnK's Starliner would be killer with the Faitals.
I hear a lot about those NV610's, however never have had the opportunity to try one out or even hear one live if you can believe that. I have been throwing around the idea of getting like a SWR Goliath Sr or Ampeg HLF 610 but also going for the big boy and be set with a Peavey TVX810 or SWR Workingman's Tower 810. But on the flip side I have been asking why not get two 410's of the same at that point, like two GK Goldline, GK SBX or Harke 410's making an 810 that way or just a single 410 for ease. These are all cabs I have found while browsing. Apparently the Mesa/Boogie diesel 215 I was looking at has been sold.
Not sure what you mean. Basically I am looking for something to just plug into and play.
Was saying if you saved a bit more and built a 215 like JohnK's Starliner you would have a killer, light cab. Would have to do the build yourself, but you would end up with a cab that would probably do you for a long time.
If you have enough cash and or some cool vintage thing that JohnK wants he might be willing to build a Starliner for you.
Avatar has some good options for the price range. I have the B212 (2x12". 1000w in ceramic; I think they're 500w in neodymium. I have the ceramic one and they only charge around $360 IIRC)
Yea, to bad some other things came up - the Mesa 215 would had been nice - oh well, dont be in a hurry and just keep saving more cash so when another killer deal appears youll be ready to jump on it - good luck bro.
Yup, don't settle on a cheaper cab if you don't need one right away, a good deal will come your way, and if you have cash in hand you'll be able to take it home.
I'd recommend holding off for another Mesa Powerhouse cab, maybe a 410 for around $500. I just sold my PH1200 which I was using at home, and am now playing through an Avatar B212 at home, and although it is a nice cab for the money, it doesn't have the sound or build quality of a Mesa. With my EQ set the same on my amp, switching to the B212 it just sounds a lot thinner then the Mesa, the Mesa was just so in your face if that makes sense.

Thanks. Like I said 215 is a cab I never have owned or played so it is a experiment in itself. A 810 would be nice because I know I should be set as far as fluctuation in gig sizes are concerned, but that is also what leads me to look into two of the same 410's for some leeway. I found a couple Peavey 810's, one is a TVX on is TX and also a cheap SWR Workingman's Tower 810. As far as 610, I found an SWR Goliath Senior, but one of the speakers is blown. And 410's there are numerous. I am not trying to go super cheap here, but something nice that will get me by and allow me to stay within my means. Right now I am using my Fender Rumble 15 and it's a good little practice amp, but it is rough to get a good sound and my amp is just sitting there to the side. Perhaps I should just wait a while, sometimes when you wait you find something better and sometimes you don't. Nature of the game.
I'm not sure about the "thinness" you're referring to, but I've played through some high-dollar cabs and I own the B212 and mine keeps up with anything else I've tried. I constantly get comments about how good my tone and range is using a GB Shuttle 9.0 through the ceramic version of the B212. It handles the B string really damn well also. That said, we all have our own opinions on this stuff and I'll have to say that just because Avatar is inexpensive doesn't make them cheap.
