Double Bass Getting my bass set up

I'm not sure how easy it is to answer this question, but I'm just looking for vague answers. I'm getting my new upright set up tomorrow in NYC for the first time since I bought it last winter, and I really have no idea what to expect cost-wise and time-wise. As far as I can see, there is nothing major wrong with the bass, no cracks etc. Just would like to have it set up since it's been a while. How much (about) would this cost, and how long does a basic set up usually take? Thank you

Well, it depends on each particular bass and on what this bass needs in order to deliver its own best potential. The classic set up refers to the bridge fitting, the strings' distance from the fingerboard, nut etc, plus some soundpost tweaking. There are some luthiers who can perform miracles with any double bass, in terms of afterlength tuning, darkening or brightening the sound and giving a special character to the sound produced. If your bass is a decent instrument you have to find the proper luthier who will give you the utmost playability of it. In this case your money will be well invested!
