Getting rid of a pedal, then purchasing it again?

As our tastes and needs evolve we all go through gear that is sometimes missed for nostalgia or the sake of coolness, I generally get that from basses of the past over pedals. I generally hold on to pedals unless I am sure i hate it or can cover the function with another pedal, but then I generally buy cheap and used so it is not a challenge to replace, usually. I did sell off a few pedals when I got my first Zoom 506 thinking i would never miss the flanger, chorus--those i did have to eventually replace.
I've recently done this with a Smallsound TAFM. I'm glad I did because the new one I got sounds a lot better than the older one I had. Or maybe it's just my ears. Either way, the TAFM is still an awesome choice and really cuts.
sold a bunch of gear once when I thought I was in need of money. BIg mistake. 2 pedals that went and had to be replaced were Boss CS-3 comp/sustainer and DOD fx-25B
I'm hoping I have a similar good result with the Alpha-Omicron + MBD-1

I did this with the EQD Dispatch Master. I absolutely loved the tone when I first bought it, but I found it too easy to kick the knobs out of place when playing live and also decided (for some reason) that I wanted to try having separate reverb and delay pedals with more features. After trying that for a little while I sold the new reverb and delay pedals for money to buy a new Dispatch Master, rehoused it in a bigger enclosure with un-kickable knobs, and have had it on my board ever since.
My wife (who doesn't give a hoot about pedals) even recognises the loin now and is dismayed when I inevitably sell it.
I sold my Ampeg SCR-DI a few months back. It's nothing special but, it's a solid pedal for a tool box.

I was having a clear-out and re-organization of my pedal board and recently sold an Xotic Bass BB Preamp... I don't know why I did because within days I was looking for another one! I managed to find a great deal on reverb and ended only about 15 dollars down on the whole thing. So, instead of selling any of the rest of the family, I bought some shelves to put the pedals that won't fit on my current board!
I have done it numerous times.... with basses, amps and cars too!

Yep. The pedals that always seem to come and go, and repeat, are MXR phasers, the BOD, the Boss OC-2, and the Fairfield Barbershop. I've owned each multiple times and they have always returned when I wind up buying them again. My OCD prevents me from keeping pedals that aren't on my board and being used regularly, so that's why I always wind up selling them.
