Switch to Winamp for your PC based library? It reads iPod's easily. and I prefer it to iTunes. I'm basing this suggestion on the idea that it's iTunes that is engaging in the DRM here, and not the iPod itself. Winamp doesn't care, I think.

Getting Songs From iPod On To Computer - Help?

iTunes comes with a Backup utiliity. Click "File", "Back Up to Disc..." and follow the prompts. It will copy your iTunes library onto CDs (or DVDs if you have a DVD+RW drive). Note this is different from burning an audio disc -- the backup discs will store a lot more songs per disc, since it's keeping them in their compressed format. Then just restore them onto the other computer using the same utility.
FYI: even when you buy a song from the iTunes store, they allow you to LEGALLY store it/play it on up to 5 computers.

From the Sunday Washington Post: to copy songs from an iPod to a PC, try Music Rescue (Invalid Link Removed) on a PC and Senuti (fadingred.org/senuti) on a Mac. Be sure to enable the iPod's "disk use" option for both of these programs.
